“For the moment, let’s set politics aside, and pretend that we are dealing with real people in real life in the real world. In that world, there is no expectation that any one of us needs to stand up and shake hands with someone we think is a rapist; or someone who has spread malicious rumors about our family. Good manners do not require us to chat amiably with someone who slammed a baseball bat into our head or called our children ugly racist slurs. Business etiquette does not require displays of civility to someone who stabbed you in the back, threatened to destroy you, or defrauded you.”
Love to send you my book about the 1980 New Hampshire Republican Primary. - Nashua: How Ronald Reagan led us to Donald Trump. My email is soxgreateight@yahoo.com. I’ll send you a PDF if you’re interested. Thank you.
I read that 2 journalists left the WaPo and are starting a new group called The Contrarian. Is this associated with your newsletter or does it just have th same name?
Thank you for photos of your dogs -- a right spot each time.
I will not pay a lot of attention to the hearings on cabinet appointments. My elected representatives don’t care about my feelings anyway, since I voted for none of them.
My main question of the day is a tough one. I left my coffee cup on the coffee table and went out to sweep snow off of the porch steps. I came back in and grabbed it to warm it up in the microwave. After returning to my chair I notice small wet spatters around the coaster.
Maybe a cat or possibly a dog. I think about who was guilty and as I drink some of it I will conclude it was me that left it there.
Karen Pence is to be revered as an honourable, thinking woman. Why did the Senators not vote to impeach DJT? We've all seen the videos and the trials transcripts (plural), and we're just stunned to think this behaviour can be accepted in a person of high office. Did JB fail his office?
Karen Pence made the same choice as her husband. They sold their souls to the devil for access to power. Then the devil turned on them when Mike finally showed some spine. He deserves credit for fulfilling his duties that day & I’m glad she stayed seated, but they enabled him for 4 years. Those 4 years aren’t erased by two acts of fortitude.
Ah the dogs. I actually thought of Charlie's dogs yesterday as I walked through semi-urban Melbourne and noticed three wallabies placidly grazing on a cold evening. There is always the world of nature, at least for now.
My only consolation in this thoroughly abnormal time is that MAGA will probably tear itself apart sooner or later.
Trump IS raged. His ascendancy to the White House has not calmed him one bit. You would think he’d be pleased to no end because he won. But it’s not enough, so he lords it over our heads.
He was born and bred to be raged. That’s the real DJT. No one can seem to stop him either or even settle him down a notch or shave off some of those deranged cruel edges. They’re all afraid of him now.
Once MAGA, Americans or one issue voters realize how the shock and awe will personally affect their lives, then maybe we’ll have converts back to reality.
This will not go well for Trump. History shows that deranged and raged people with no civility have sorrowful legacies.
"Hands will be shaken, civilities exchanged, and political differences apparently set aside for the peaceful transfer of power."
Until Trump opens his mouth to speak and puts the lie to this transparent charade.
In attendance will be W and Laura Bush. Absent throughout the campaign in the face of pleas to speak out in defense of democracy, I suppose W is in need of a bit more fresh air than Carter's funeral provided. Ony so much brush clearing one can do before tedium and even ennui set in.
Also, Bill and the Hill because, well, they're Bill and the Hill. Never a proximity to power they didn't avail themselves of. Jill and Joe shouldn't go because, well... Trump and Melania and 2020 and just general principles and like that.
But sadly, they'll be there as well. Along with Obama. The former prez that is. The former First Lady, obviously being the one to wear the balls in that family, will not.
But the balless rogue's gallery of Zuckerberg, Bezos and myriad others who have failed to stand up to be counted when it counted and counted the most, will be there standing tall for Trump.
One notable absence which no one is very likely to notice is Irony, a confirmed bachelor but who often shows up with Hypocrisy on his arm. She'll be there as front and center as she ever is wherever Trump is himself, her being the one floozy he can never completely shed himself of. But sadly, The Big I bit the big one sometime back and is in that giant dustbin of history in the sky,
But he'll be smiling down on us all, even laughing out loud as Trump is sworn in as #47 on January 20th.
Which this year also happens to be Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Your dogs are a soothing balm at the end of another day of crazy town.
Liz Cheney is one of the few politicians that I have respect for in this day and age. And, like Karen Pence and Michelle Obama, I'm largely tuning out of political news and politics in general. I still read your posts and listen to a few pods a week, but I can't do the daily slog of insanity of Trump for another 4+ years. America wants this? They can have it, but I'm not going to participate.
I remain, as I have these last three years, committed to my support, admiration and respect for Liz Cheney. Like a dog with a tasty bone she ain’t letting go and it infuriates her Republican former colleagues. Pushing their faces into the pile of shit that is their weak, pathetic utterly amoral reality, She never stops letting Republicans know that they in the end will be judged by history. I know that 50 years from now the history books, and Americans in general will be looking on her as a hero and Trump as the villain and stain on the republic that he is.
I very much agree with Charlie Sykes ⬇️.

Jason would have been a hell of a Senator.

Know what...?
Turns out His Noisome Noisiness was right - I HAVE grown "tired of all the winning."
I'm confused. How could Trump do a 1:00 am rant against the Smith report when he can't read?
I see Jennifer Rubin is announcing a new news organization called The Contrarian. Are you part of that?
No. Was not invited.
I like your voice better.
To put it crassly, Karen Pence has more balls than her husband or Barrack Obama. I dislike her but kudos where kudos are due.
