Enjoy the Annual French Invasion!

Trump crowed that he knows sports really well, because he’s an athlete. But he knew nothing about the Red Card!

The World Cup in the US was the one thing we could all celebrate. Then Trump got involved.

The DSA is killing me. Their stand on Ukraine is outrageous. The Ukrainians are fighting for their rightful territory, their freedom and democracy. They are the standing wall against further Russian aggression in Europe. If these DSA folks do not see that, if they want to close down our international influence, they are headed in the wrong direction. Retreating to an "America First" place is cultural and political suicide. Lord knows, we have enough work on our hands rebuilding the trust and stature that trump has squandered and defiled. We don't need far left Democrats making it worse.

It does seem like a better investment to help Ukrainians now than to possibly have to send US servicemen later. Putin is Russia's Trump so the danger should be well understood and relatable. But it's a hypothetical argument with lots of assumptions, and the Russians are paying such a high price already that a Russian coup looks much more likely now than a conquest of Europe.

So, in that context, where would you rather spend the billions; to help Americans or to help Ukrainians? We do not have unlimited money.

I would gladly take a billion dollars out of DHS's budget and send it to Ukraine than watch those valiant people have to lose what they have fought so hard to keep. We don't have so much a money problem as we have a priorities problem. Trillionaires and multi-billionaires are not suited to a democracy. Neither are conglomerate behemoth corporations. The Roosevelt cousins managed to break up that obscene dislocation of the Amaerican economy and level the playing field for average Americans. That and a total reconfiguration of the US budget--with a commitment to paying down the national debt and providing health care, food assistance, science, etc.--can still be done with enough to spare for Ukraine.

The horseshoe theory holds here. DSA has become a catch-all that now includes the wackiest of the wackos.

took me until midnight to catch Sykes and Frank, worth seeking out!

It seems that fifa bending the knee to it's call, despite 2 teams protest, turned into incredible motivation for Belgium.

Leo Peterson's avatar

I think the Belgian's spoke for Europe collectively tonight when they embarrassed, undressed and curb stomped the US team emphatically, 4-1, and then trolled Trump on the pitch with his signature dance. Orange Nero and his Make Everyone Hate Us tour is certainly paying the expected dividends.

And now Planter is having a reflective pause because CNN broke a story about an alleged rape. Meanwhile, Belgium defeats Team USA 4-1 and the Secretary General of NATO says the USA alliance is no longer sustainable, When it rains on Donald Trump's parade it really pours. Nice work

One rape too many. I guess Democrats do have a bottom after all. Republicans still haven't found one.

If we woke up tomorrow to the news that this pres had called Gianni Infantino again to insist that the game be replayed, or that the men's team get some made-up prize a la the 1st Inaugral Peace Prize, could we credibly claim surprise?

There is the ever expanding troubles of Graham Platner. It now looks like he will withdraw, which he should. There is the troubles with the Dem. candidate in Michigan. I once gave Democrats a 40% chance to take the Senate. That has dropped considerably. Democrats are trying to find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Like everything else, DJT has entered every facet of our lives and is enshitifying it. Everything Trump touches Dies. And among them is our reputation that will take perhaps a generation to repair.

I don’t understand even people who “like” Trump, could think him insinuating himself in yet another event, setting, war, you get the point. Would be ok. And to be clear, this is NOT team USAs fault or the player or anyone but Trump and Infantino! This is their shit sandwich! And of course I’m seeing USA playing as bad as they ever have. Not saying there’s a correlation. But everything trump touches DIES!

Given FIFA's corrupt history, it is no surprise that a fellow traveler convinced them to shred their rules... The irony of asking a favor of a person he wants to expel from the country highlights the transactional nature of this boil on the ass of life.

Rest assured, the US will not host a World Cup for another 40 years

Happy French Invasion Day!!!!

So, team USA is depending on a birth right citizen to defend the goal post? Irony is dead

So DJT will probably find a way to blame him.
