This afternoon, I had a chance to chat with Taegan Goddard of Political Wire about the first 11 days of Trump 2.0. We touched on DJT’s press conference on the DCA tragedy — about which I’ll have a lot more to say tomorrow — and covered the transition from “shock and awe” to blunder and farce.
Also: Some thoughts about the surrender of the GOP and the future of the Trump Dynasty.
Give it a listen. And heads up… near the end both Auggie and Eli make their presence known.
See you tomorrow.
To the Contrary is a reader-supported publication. You may disagree with me from time to time (and I expect you will, because I’m not promising you a safe space here). But I’ll always try to give it to you straight.
The knee-bending by billionaire media moguls and the enshittification of social media by the broligarchs has transformed the media landscape... and made independent outlets like Substack more vital than ever.

I cried tears of joy when I heard you are going to podcast again!! I’ve missed you so much, Charlie!
Great to see the pooches, Charlie... Before I get started, I just wanted to say we are huge fans of yours and are so grateful for everything you have done to try and thwart the Orange shite, so please view this post as a a constructive suggestion, not a criticism of you personally because, by crikey, you did your part! (Disclaimer, what the heck do we know about the realities of the media?) Anyway Diana and I (her hub) have been unbelievably frustrated over the years because of the Dems and, sorry to say this, the Never Trumpers, inability to effectively counter the Orange Shite and the repubs torrent of informational diarrhea. Perhaps, going forward, an approach would be to flood the zone with torrents of truth. By the zone, we mean the cesspools of the right wing info sphere. So why not go on Fox News, Newsmax, Joe Rogan and God help us, even stinking piles of crap like Info Wars, to put out the real facts. It's all very well to write pithy articles on the Bulwark, or the Dispatch, or the Atlantic (all of which we subscribe to and really enjoy), or the NYT, but the average MAGAt will never look at these... So the truth is not reaching those who need to hear it. Simply preaching to the choir on CNN or MSNBC etc. won't cut it. For example, where was the response in the right wing ecosystem to the utter bollocks the Orange shite spouted on the cause of the air disaster in DC? Trump, the fuck-wit, blamed this on Biden and DEI hiring practices. He should have been crucified over this. Where was the response to the utter incompetency of the first few days of the administration? Pete Buttigeig tried to take on this herculean task, but much, much more was needed.
