I don't know about murder, but he could rape a 14-year-old.

It says nothing about the culture or the mores of most Americans who deplore such behaviour. It is an indictment of the Maga movement but they sold their souls long ago.

Though I enjoyed and agree with much of what was said, I have to totally disagree about “the truth” being that there are only two genders. That is utterly disposable by science. I once believed the same, until I explored the issue. I would strongly urge anyone who hasn’t read the science behind it to look into it. A great place to start is this Substack article: https://open.substack.com/pub/thinkbigpicture/p/human-sex-gender-nonbinary?r=1ei7i&utm_medium=ios

So Democrats finally acknowledging “the truth” would be akin to them finally learning “the truth” about flat-eartherism.

Fascinating conversation, Charlie, with much healthy food for thought. Many thanks. Going back to your discussion of the Bible story about the temptation of Jesus on top of the world mountain: It would seem like the white Evangelical community (or at least the leadership) have effectively accepted the Devil’s bargain and sold their souls for worldly power. Tillich said your “God” is your highest concern; and if power trumps love, then their God is Power, not Love.

That’s Bernie’s age long platform. I’m not particular fan of Bernie’s but mentioning Jayapal and not Bernie seems disingenuous.

Excellent discussion and a forward look. We do need a leader, but currently we have silence from the bench. I would love a vocal clap back from democrats.

Why don't these "evangelicals" focus on themselves and their own lives, and why do they need to dictate to others? I believe Jesus spoke against this as well as a very basic tenant.

Richard Rohr states in his newest book that "the only thing worse than narcissism is group narcissism." To me this describes exactly what Evangelicals and many Christians have become. A distorted and misstated brand of Christianity led by Trump.

I'm not a Christian, but I'm reading a lot about the faith from its top scholars, and I'm astounded at how badly this country is practicing their stated "faith."

My gosh, this was an excellent podcast, Charlie. Your guest was exceptional and I learned from and enjoyed this discussion.

Patriimonialism. I want to write that down for seven seconds so I remember it. Fascinating and accurate. Everything Mr. Rauch said about what Trump and his stooges are doing with such speed to demolish everything they can is the truth. Power and vengeance. And frankly, our government is already incompetent. That is because the men and women, primarily the GOP in the majority, have allowed this.

When/if we get rid of this corrupt model, we must get back to the concept of public service, and we must get rid of special interests. Without education, though, we may never get there. Without truth – which many people do not seem interested in hearing – I can't see when this will be.

MAGA 'christian' evangelicals are really 'christian' nationalists. These are not normie Christians by any stretch of the imagination. MAGA weaponization and exploitation of Christianity is one of the reason why they carry so many of those voters. It's been a several decade long MAGA project that used charlatan preachers like Falwell and others to mobilize the base in the same way they do w/ their right wing disinformation networks (right wing 'news' outlets.)
