Maybe like a nova, the GOP will burn itself out. Crusted and rancid inside, they have set a fire that will likely burn them alive. And the Dems? Well, I think we should be protesting as loudly against their stupidity, lack of a strategic plan, piss-poor leadership, and general cluelessness, as we do against the regime. I'm ready for a make-over of Dems in the House and Senate. The old need to give way to the younger, more strategic, more savvy, more in touch with the electorate and all-platform media, if we are going to kick MAGA's ass. Schumer and Jeffries have to go, now. No more tails between legs, no more throwing up hands in surrender, no more suffering fools. The BBB is a devastation and an opportunity. Let's act like it.
Having watched the insanity south of the 49th...the Wild and Crazy Times in which we live...it dawned on me to reflect on a bit of Comedy...that harkened in the 70's and 80's by your great comedian Steve Martin...that 'WILD AND CRAZY GUY'...so I submit to you a 4 minute skit that he performed. A skit full of humour and satire that the Trump Administration is totally inept at...as they know no humour, empathy or intellect...as they cherish only a vindictive and cruel profile in their so called governance for the fine and patriotic people of America.
So here's a bit of humour that the rest of America can appreciate...because we can be Wild and Crazy Guys and Gals...and laugh at ourselves while enjoying life to the fullest...as we are both wise...enjoy the arts and culture together with our fine Comedians...that inform us that we can maintain a Critical View and Speak Truth to Power...while enjoying a fine life.
Cheers from a Canadian who also loves our many Comedians who can stand up in front of an audience and provide us with not only laughs but JOY!!
I don't think Jeffries has the same gravitas as Nancy Pelosi did. The Rs respected Pelosi a lot (even as they said they hated her; some did both at the same time). But I really think even if Jeffries was more charismatic, the fact is that Trump had all of these Rs over a barrel.
Ok, this one was hard. I see the matching pair of ventriloquist dummies with Steve Scalise on the right. But who's the dummy on the left? Also, beware of the Stict Scrutiny women and Harry Litman--no good news on SCOTUS there either. We haven't begun to fight yet.
In spite of the negative numbers posted, especially the corporate give away in his first term.....people voted fat nixon back into office. So,I am not convinced how effective the negative vs positive numbers will actually help change minds. Republicans deserve the politicians they elect. It is the rest of us who have to suffer as well.
Thank you for your clear-sighted commentary. However depressing it may be, this assessment outlines the necessity of coordinated action on the part of the up-to-now silent majority.
"The hardest truth: This may have been a loss for the American people, but this was a big Trump win. He continues to plow through the norms, institutions, and guardrails of government, and he will use the BBB to accelerate his momentum."
Here is another essay, written long ages ago, which may apply to our current political situation -
"He has endeavored to prevent the population of these States, for that purpose obstructing the Laws of Naturalization of Foreigners, refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither and raising the conditions of Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws establishing Judiciary Powers.
He has made judges dependent on his will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He erected a multitude of new offices and sent hither Swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies, without the consent of our legislatures.
He has effected to render the military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution and unacknowledged by our laws, giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation:
For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us.
For protecting them, by a mock trial from punishment for any murders which they should commit on the inhabitants of these States.
For cutting off our trade with all parts of the world.
For imposing taxes upon us without our consent.
For depriving us, in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury.
For transporting us beyond seas to be tried for pretended offenses."
Nothing says consolidation of power like handing over the Legislative Branch gavel to the Executive. It’s a stunning visual of total capitulation and abdication of the oath they took to the Constitution and the people.
Respectfully, it’s “our” money and the bully’s next bankruptcy will be US taxpayers so he can play in Putin’s sandbox. There’s always someone with a bigger hammer…
We do not have a perfect bill by any stretch of the imagination,” Murkowski told reporters. “My hope is that the House is going to look at this and recognize that we’re not there yet.”
Basically kicking the can down to somebody else when she could’ve stopped it in the Senate.
It is so sick that Lisa Murkowski said this justifying herself and trying to make herself look serious and “good”.
There is nothing about that bill that she should’ve ever normalized and voted for.
Talking about her constituents was ridiculous. This is what they all say.
Her/ their first obligation was to the oath that
she/ they took to protect our democracy and our constitution.
This was the first obligation.
If she had any type of integrity, morality, sense of right from wrong or normal thinking she would have voted against it from the beginning.
She has done nothing but be compliant and complicit and normalized so much giving nothing but lip service trying to sit on the fence.
She would’ve never participated in any of the Trump Maga fascist behavior in the last 10 years. She would’ve put country over party as other decent integral republican members have done.
She could’ve used her office that she was holding to try to stop Trump and the Republicans from doing damage.
She could’ve done with John McCain did.
She had PLENTY of opportunities to do the RIGHT THING.
They all have lost sight of what it meant to “serve “ thinking they’re entitled to jobs as “ careers” paid for by taxpayers. Yet they want to cut teachers and other federal employees that help people provide services.
They want to cut everybody else’s healthcare while they get to keep their own healthcare paid for by taxpayers .
Let's consider Greg Abbot's change of mind about FEMA. Such a hypocrite.
Boring, not Beautiful, yet I approve with the Naughty by Nature Stamp.

Why the Democrats were unable to peel off more votes?

Let's just call it the Felon's secret sauce.

I don't have a clue as to why.
Agree with you 100%, Charlie.

That is an excellent question why the Democrats couldn’t peel off the votes of the normies who will - most likely- suffer in the midterms.
In spite of the negative numbers posted, especially the corporate give away in his first term.....people voted fat nixon back into office. Dear Mr. Sykes,

Revolting isn't it? and the look on Trump's face....
The playground bully has taken your lunch money and has the hammer.
Respectfully, it’s “our” money and the bully’s next bankruptcy will be US taxpayers so he can play in Putin’s sandbox. There’s always someone with a bigger hammer…
I stand corrected. "our" money is correct. And the guy who mistakenly thinks he's Thor will never be admitted to Putin's kitty litter box.
There’s a saying :
“ You can tell the character of a man by what he does with his money”
This also pertains to the republican body in both the senate and the house
This also pertains to the billionaires
Again on Lisa Murkowski
We do not have a perfect bill by any stretch of the imagination,” Murkowski told reporters. “My hope is that the House is going to look at this and recognize that we’re not there yet.”

The “laying on of feet” was a balm. Thanks for the rest, as ever.
