I think McConnell said "They will get over it" and that other Senator said "we are all going to die"

"“Camp Mystic, a Christian–oriented venue that has hosted Texas’s political elite and their offspring for over a century, is located in San Antonio’s suburb of Hunt.”

God works in strange ways?

The National Weather Service did issue a Flash Flood Warning for the area but as a lot of meteorologists have pointed out over the last few days, the technology for predicting the Texas event just does not exist. So while the NWS was missing people, sadly, if those people had been in their roles, they likely would have had a minimal effect on the outcome of this disaster.

Loved your "lemmings gonna lemming" remark.

I have to say, I laughed at the social security email that come out over the weekend. What a game to play to get a tax reduction on social security income.

Sad to see the resignation of Michael Feinberg. I've known him for a number of years and he's a stand up guy. But not surprising to hear he resigned. I have a lot of friends that are retiring from the Bureau this year because of the changes in the organization.

Living in Texas, we have the worst of a pro-birth, anti-life state and federal government. “Virdell’s closeup view of the havoc wreaked on his district has made a lasting impression, he said, and left him reconsidering a vote he made just a few months ago against a bill that would have established a statewide plan to improve Texas’ disaster response, including better alert systems, along with a grant program for counties to buy new emergency communication equipment and build new infrastructure like radio towers.

“I can tell you in hindsight, watching what it takes to deal with a disaster like this, my vote would probably be different now,” said Virdell, a freshman GOP lawmaker from Brady.” https://www.texastribune.org/2025/07/06/texas-disaster-warning-emergency-communication-bill-kerrville-floods/

i can just hear the dulcet tones of "No gubmint gonna tell me what to do" as their lives and property are washed downstream.

Well, I don't know quite what to say but somehow, having Fake TV wrestling at the White House fits right in. I would have preferred Roller Derby and having the track go around the White House. It could bring back Shirley Hardman from the Kansas City Bombers who must be in her '90's now if still alive. Selling Teslas didn't last long where the rose garden used to be but I do think bringing back "Cal Worthington" Ads would goose sales. Maybe some Ronco Ads from the kitchens? Elvira on weekends? I need stuff to live for.

My current vision of the weather service in a political cartoon would have one guy on a lifeguard's perch with binoculars squinting into the west, hair blowing straight back looking at a tornado with a cardboard cup and a string back to base. That's it.

Celebrating the fourth? Not. My oldest took a leave of absence from State after over ten years there. When the fascist tide is high, rambling out to sea makes some sense.

Bring back the Vege-matic!

a great visual for your cartoon.

Well, the Bass-o-matic was better!, or the discount steakhouse with the chainsaws.

Don't forget the flo-bee or be-dazzler!

how far the lowly chainsaw has come! pity the chainsaw at CPAC, wielded by MAGAlomaniacs!

What a shit storm … and three plus years to go. If he’s only going to be a president for those that support him, can we have a president too and swear in Kamala???

Great Alligator Auschwitz tee shirt. Even the Nazis didn’t want to publicize their cruelty. Trump and Noem take pleasure in being able to torture helpless people. Now they are monetizing it.

The blood on the hands of Trump and his sadistic goons will only continue to grow.

Applause for Leigh’s comments.

Yes I was extremely disappointed that maybe a couple of Ukraine supporting republicans didn't at least try to leverage trump. Don Bacon especially was disappointing. I think trump would have traded the weapons for the votes, but they are so terrified of losing their position they wouldn't even risk it. All of them and most especially Murkowski remind me of a quote that applies I think to the whole republican party "those who trade freedom for security deserve neither". These cowards must live with what they did and sadly so do the rest of us.

And possibly just the first one. Hopefully not, but it’s still early in hurricane season.

The comments about the flash flooding and lack of National Weather Service specialists to warn people should enrage even MAGA supporters. I highly recommend reading the Mike Fineberg article you provided a link to. Quite an eye opener

Harley "Griff" Lofton's avatar

MAGA (and state officials) has already shifted blame to "local failures" to adequately warn people--- after all, the NWS issued flood warnings--- why didn't local officials do more to heed the warnings and evacuate those in danger? This is an old trick they use. Remember when the Uvalde school shootings all came down to the failure of local law enforcement?

verne's avatar

yes, they seem to excel in throwing the weakest link under the bus. i do remember uvalde and the good guys with guns who stood around for an hour.

check out kandiss taylor, GA candidate for Congress, saying the floods were fake, due to cloud seeding. MTG (magenta toned gonad) will sponsor a resolution to ban cloudseeding.

I guess if the floods were fake, are the victim's bodies?

the thought process, or lack thereof, of these cretins is mind blowing

I read it, he was angry and with good reason but what he wrote was not surprising, we all know what is going on.
