‘Be not afraid!’ The admonition that is the first words of so many New Testament passages is a good phrase for today. We each must lead by example and in a time when fear is shouted at us incessantly we must be true to our own moral compass and say to ourselves and each other. I just read a short sermon ( not something I do much) by Rev Candler of St Phillips cathedral in Atlanta. It’s a Christmas sermon but same title, ‘Be not afraid’. Here is link- https://www.cathedralatl.org/sermons/be-not-fear/#:~:text=In%20the%20Bible%2C%20there%20is,the%20angel%20said%20to%20Mary.
After yesterday's assassination attempt, Trump is now a true victim and martyr. Chris Cillizza posted the photo of Trump with his face bloodied and fist raised in defiance and said that it will totally define the campaign and he is absolutely correct.
How the Dems come from behind this event, I do not even have a clue.
Someone shot at trump this is bad, but even worse the dispatch referred to him as the president. With everything they post the dispatch is showing themselves all in for trump
Surely you can see that articles like this contribute to this unfairness. But we should just shrug off that the press and pundit community can’t figure out how to accurately cover Trump - but they have to cover something - so, too bad Joe! But your ilk may read this opinion and say “Nope- not me! I am really good at my job!” or “Dems need to open their eyes and see what I tell them to see”. This really feels like the Twilight Zone.
Charlie, thx again for the dog photos. I picture you and your wife stepping over and around those big beautiful guys when trying to prepare dinner. Same with me and my sweet big rescue pitbull.
Anyhow it's odd that I, a life-long Democrat, fit in better with you, Adam Kinziger, and Steve Schmidt because you're not deluding yourselves. Talking frankly about Biden's slim odds of beating Trump (as I do) is not bed-wetting or being ageist. A lot of Dems seem to have no idea how millions of undecided voters in swing states feel. Anyhow, here are my suggested action steps, again:
Regardless of what Biden does, whoever the Democratic nominee is must beat Trump. https://www.focus4democracy.org/ - Their next zoom is Tuesday, July 16 at 8pm ET. Sign up at bit.ly/F4D16July . They focus on turning out Democratic votes, especially in swing states. F4D does a Zoom every 2 weeks. Also look at OATH - https://app.oath.vote/ - lets you specify your greatest concerns (stopping Trump, Reproductive Rights, or other issues) and tells you which campaigns are the most crucial. There's the risk that people who are so disheartened about the Democratic presidential choices may decide not to vote at all - that would have a bad downstream effect on other offices.
What rewards do I get when I show my friends this issue of "To the Contrary" and instead of subscribing, they express profound disgust at its intellectual dishonesty?
What I meant is don’t let how difficult this situation is paralyze you. (Notice I did not mention Biden.) I meant we must muster the strength to defeat Trump, period, no matter who the nominee is. Sorry that wasn’t clear.
After watching and listening to the press conference Thursday evening, I think that there isn't anyone who has the wisdom, expertise, experience, energy and drive that Joe Biden demonstrated to lead us effectively and safely for the next four years. I'm with Joe!

Lisa, I think the US is different from all of the European countries you cited. Europe is way more Biblically religious than we are. See Pew Research on this (https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2018/09/05/u-s-adults-are-more-religious-than-western-europeans/#:~:text=U.S.%20adults%20are%20also%20much,goes%20on%20in%20the%20world.%E2%80%9D). I think that explains why the US has not elected a woman as president. The Bible was written long ago in a time of patriarchy before women were given equal rights in the West. It's influence in the US is greater than in Europe.
Well ... What do we do now?

Heaven help us all.
I wish I could rescind my vote for Biden from the primary last March. I feel like I've been duped.

Wonder if the shooting today was a classic false flag. Crisis actors right? That's what Alex Jones would say lol.
No way it was staged, less than an inch to the left and we'd be now living in a completely different reality.
Yes I completely agree. Was just making light of the fact of how Alex Jones would spin this is some unhinged way.

I wrote, "to swing in the wind?"
Complete sentence.
I can't drop it.I am mad . They prepped him and disappeared.
Irresponsable. Still holding in anger.
After dinner, I'll let go...
In his newsletter today, Robert Reich asks:
Why are we talking about Biden's age when we should be talking about Trump's Project 2025?
That question perfectly encapsulates why Biden needs to withdraw from the race.
Another iteration of this argument, comes from Michelle Goldberg of the NYT:
If Biden stays in the race, the election will be a referendum on his mental acuity.
If he drops out of the race, the election could be a referendum on reproductive rights.

What intellectual dishonesty?
If you don't see it, SandyG, I can't help you. Sorry!

Amen, sister.
