I’m waiting for some ambitious writer to write a series entitled “Profiles in Cowardice”…it can start with “Lying Ted Cruz or “Little Marko”, to start….up to “Meritless Garland”…cameo by Moscow Mitch, “ wishbone McCarthy, “ Chuckles Schumer”, the possibilities are endless….if it weren’t so sad it would be funny.

"Trailing clouds of grievance" . . . love the literary references. From radio host onward, Charlie Sykes is turning out to be one of our current political philosophers. It's a pleasure to read a literate, substantive, and deep analysis with acerbic wit. The dogs are a plus.

What scares me is the Supreme Court has placed felon Trump above the law. As felon Trump said during the election, "Vote for me and you'll never have to vote again." During his last term, felon Trump tried to use the military against the protesters in Lafayette Square when he said to Mike Esper, "Can't you just shoot them in the legs?." If you read his book, Hegseth has no problem using the military against the American people. I hope I'm wrong, but God help us.

I suspect there is a sense of futility in GOP resistance to Trump's unqualifed cabinet picks. What's the point of resisted Hegseth as "unqualified" considering the "people's choice," the commander in chief who picked him, is ALSO completely unqualified. Yet, a bit more than half of America's voters chose him.

With this cabinet they’re going for the kill rather than a slow death of democracy. They didn’t learn the boiling the frog lesson. Could be their first mistake.

I am as feminist as they come but I think Dems over focused on women with Hegseth. I can’t believe this guy would pass a security clearance and shouldn’t that be a requirement?

If I were those groups or individuals that trump (bleeted) about,if immediately start working out a plan for the backing of some, any politicians who are still or miss being an actual republican! These people aren’t as rich as Elonia sure, but they are loaded and they CAN back sane republicans who may work with democrats,at least in a way from before 2008, when president Blackenstein was elected and they started a whole movement from their racism and xenophobia hidden behind the “don’t tread on me” rhetoric. In 2016-2020 these people lost their shit even further (by and because of their own elected president) then trump lost and boy we’ve been inundated with his constant cries of wolf and witch-hunt aplenty. Fox News has been a constant player in the dum dums dumbing it down of America. Add newsmax, oan and influencers goaded on by Musk and this is where we are. The end of the beginning, and woe to all come Monday,January 20,2025.

So if were the Koch family or those other billionaires and groups?

I’ll say, CLIMB OFF YOUR FUCKING HIGH HORSES SND HELP US SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY & COUNTRY IM THE PROCESS.

Oh and Nikki Hailey? NO,just NO. GTFOH

I'm finding it extremely disgusting that Republican MAGA voters are so stupid and blind. The dumbing down of the population by Republican propaganda coming from right wind media, the kowtowing of MSM and the utter disregard for education in this country have given us this: oligarchy run by a kakistocracy if tRumps appointees get confirmed.

And Moscow Mitch McConnell could have stopped ALL OF THIS if he would have had the BALLS to get the senate to convict tRump on his 2nd impeachment. Instead he said that tRump was an outgoing president, that he hadn't gotten away with anything yet and that our justice system would take care of tRump.

Mitch McConnell is a fucking moron if he thought tRump would just fade away. He's not the "brilliant politician" he thinks he is. He was too stupid to recognize the threat.

Generally agree that Hegseth is morally reprehensible, but to include a quote that uses the term “credibly accused racist” seems below the Charlie I used to listen to in MKE. What does that term mean? If it was that credible, wouldn’t he have been charged with a crime? If not charged, then isn’t he assumed innocent under the law? If so, that term is completely unacceptable. Charlie bemoans the degradation in the Senate, but he is doing the same thing by including accusations and name calling that are beneath him.

Amazing to me, that so many Americans can tolerate this cruel, juvenile, idiot as president. His name-calling alone is disgraceful. He is an overgrown bully who embarrasses this country every time he opens his mouth or posts on social media. We could have had a mature, intelligent woman working for us, and not the oligarchs wielding puppet strings over their willing lackey and our future.

Oh yes. Here's the path in your opening lines. Our path to the fight will be with these Republicans who are being unceremoniously purged! There will be many and still powerful. That's the show I'm going to watch here and there. It's about 24 months to a new wave.

Thank you for the photos of the dog tussle. Uplifting and worthy of a big smile. I fear I won't have much to smile about post January 20th, but keep those dog pics coming. They make my day.

It's surreal to recall the times I heard conservative intellectuals fret about "defining deviancy down" and worry about the erosion of moral standards in the culture - and then to watch some of those same people devote themselves to glorifying Trump and heaping contempt on anyone who still expresses the same views on public ethics that they once did. More surreal: the Trump apologists claim to be holding the moral high ground.

Hakeem Jeffries should tell Turner that he can hold on to the Chair of the Intelligence Committee if he can find a few other jilted Republicans to switch parties or just declare as Independents. Dems should promise to support actively any Republicans that switch to Independent status.

On another note: I miss DP Moynihan every day. I had the good fortune to run into him at LaGuardia Airport one time when he was working to save Social Security. I asked him about Social Security’s future. He told me not to worry. My check comes reliably every month. The man knew what he was doing. And he told the truth — good and bad. I wish more of our leaders were like him.

I think I heard of a podcast coming out soon where those who have been so unceremoniously flicked away in a bleet might consider being a guest to express their views to the contrary. What’s the name of that podcast again? 😂🥰

"One of the central tenets of Trumpism, writes Wittes, is 'the contempt for expertise and traditional qualifications; the insistence that the only real qualification is authenticity—and that authenticity is somehow wrapped up in performative masculinity; the belief that sounding tough and being tough are the same thing ....'"

For many years I have repeatedly said: The top goal of Republicans is to say and do things that seem macho to ignorant people.

Turns out it's a winning strategy.
