We’re feeling much more hopeful about beating Trump, with Kamala about to become the nominee. But we can’t be complacent, we need to educate swing state voters to vote Democratic. Two action items:
Focus4Democracy is a group of very smart people with decades of experience crafting effective campaign messages. They do a zoom every 2 weeks. Their Zooms explain how they test and refine messages that generate more Democratic votes, particularly in battleground states. And they track the results. They need donations. But those who can't donate, you can forward Focus4Democracy's info to everyone you know. https://www.focus4democracy.org/
Downballot races matter too. State Congress, governors, and judges are sometimes elected. States are particularly important in protecting abortion rights and voter rights if Trump is re-elected. Visit app.oath.vote - they identify the most crucial races where your donations can make a difference. We can only vote where we live, but we can donate money nationwide - and we can also email our friends around the country.
Harris needs to clarify past comments with facts. Whenever possible, make Trump answer for his past. His pass includes convictions for fraud for sexual assault, etc. etc. stay on the offensive don’t get caught trying to defend.
I know the GOP is going to hit Harris saying she’s too left, however, as someone who is very familiar with the far-left of the party, I think the concern can be combatted deftly with wise word choices. First of all, the far-left has never liked Kamala. I was living in the Bay Area while she was a city politician, a state politician, and later a national figure. The far-left has disliked her the entire time. They still do, and they will continue their fruitless support for Jill Stein. Everyone knows candidates pivot to the left during the primary (a century ago in political years), and most voters just have no idea who she is or what she stands for. Harris using the theme of “freedom” is smart and something I’ve been personally hounding my lefty friends to do for years. Be the party of personal freedom. Everything should be framed with “freedom” in mind. Also, AOC and the squad were the some of the most vocal defenders of Biden staying in the race, so the most notable left-wing figures weren’t Harris firebrands right away. This helps.
Thank you, once again, for keeping it real, Mr. Sykes. I will definitely be looking for Ms. Harris to define herself and especially how she addresses past positions.
I am not sure that we have learned enough. I am not sure Republicans are planning to win an election so much as install their candidate no matter what. If they win at the ballot box (well, through the Electoral College), they will take it.
I think they are banking on the courts and obstinate election officials and confusion and paralysis and rage. I think they are right about the courts this time.
If you listen closely on many of these items, what she says is, “We need to think about ____” or “We can have a conversation.”
That’s different than “I support _______.”
What she should do is run on her record. The record of the prosecutor who increased conviction rates and decreased crime- first in SF and later across CA. Were mistakes made? Of course. But that’s how it goes. She should own her mistakes and then challenge Trump to own some of his (spoiler alert: he won’t and he’ll look stupid.)
It's not even Jabberwocky. Jabberwocky makes sense. Jabberwocky is a poem: verse with meter and a narrative. Jabberwocky is a low entropy information set. What we have here is Trumpenwocky.
Trumpenwocky is merely information free time varying air density rarefactions and compressions which, listened to by properly conditioned and trained human beings, results in those individuals experiencing sensations indistinguishable from the feeling of having actually been told something.
Fascinating (and depressing) recent results in AI research show that training AI models on AI generated "content"-- i.e, feeding the AI its own output -- results in the output becoming indistinguishable from garbage. Which should astonish nobody. What else would you expect from intensive protracted copraphagia?
Nor should it be any sort of surprise that humans who isolate themselves into epistemic whirlpools wind up as stable geniuses like Trump, emitting and ingesting and re-emitting and re-ingesting increasingly information-free high-entropy crap.
If Claude Shannon were still around, he would point out that this is entirely what one should expect... the second law always rules
I’m from Rockford,IL The pictures bring back great memories. I used to say that it was a law that everyone in Rockford had to have a cabin in Wisconsin, or at least vacation there every year.
It's why they are widening I-90 to three lanes from the state line up to Madison so that people can get to the cabin faster. Although traffic still backs up on I-94 from Portage up to Eau Claire at times.
Love the photos. I was born and raised in neenah/menasha
Harris/Cheney or Harris/Kinsinger 2024!

Loved the Jabberwocky reference!
