If his support informs and encourages others to vote for KH then he will have earned indulgence for some of his past actions.

I keep thinking of Anne Lamott who wrote:

“Grace: Spiritual WD-40. Water wings. The mystery of grace is that God loves Dick Cheney and me exactly as much as He or She loves your grandchild. Go figure. The movement of grace is what changes us, heals us and our world.”

She spent years trying to square with her faith that God loves Dick Cheney too. He was our Darth Vader back in the Bush days during the Iraq War.

Forgiveness is unpopular in these times…mostly because it has been used as a manipulative tool to fast forward past any examination of conscience by some very unscrupulous pastors and priests. But, unforgiveness has gotten out of hand and veered over to a sort of creepy fundamentalist-flavored self righteousness.

Anne re-posted Dick’s endorsement. I'm trying to imagine her this morning…she who wrote, “At family gatherings where you suddenly feel homicidal or suicidal, remember that in half of all cases, it's a miracle that this annoying person even lived. Earth is Forgiveness School.” Dick, the patriarch who made your blood boil has gone and done the right thing for our dysfunctional U.S. family. Forgiveness School just got very demanding.

Now, let's get these former officials cutting ads telling our citizens what is at stake here! Step up folks.

Cheney makes his millions when America is manufacturing weapons of war. Democrats ensure lots of wars.

Dick Cheney must have grown a heart, and reread the US Constitution.

Hopefully, Dick Cheney’s example will provide the permission structure for many more respected Republicans, especially members of the Trump administration, to come forward and loudly denounce Trump and draw attention to the extreme danger to our nation and the world that another Trump term would represent.

The possibility of Trump and his crew causing tariffs may be the real concern for Dick.

Mmmm Dick voted TWICE for Trump. George voted once and wrote in a name the second time. I’m glad Dick has come to his senses, but me thinks he doth protest too loudly. I don’t hear any regret or contrition. Will it make a difference? We most probably never know.

Mmmm Dick voted for Trump TWICE. Me thinkest he doth protest too loudly. Better late than never I guess. George Bush voted for Trump the first time and then wrote in another name the second time.

I’m glad Dick has come to his senses but I don’t see any contrition or remorse. Not that I would have ever expected any.

So does Dick affect anyone else? We will ever really know.

Wow, I hadn't realized that Liz Cheney was the responsible for organizing that SecDef letter that came out in Jan 2021.

The dogs are very very big. Now I’m over that shock, will say….seeing what Russia produces, as a Democratic who thought (along with many US Generals) that trying to create infrastructure in Iraq at the same time as fighting a way (ridiculous) one must admire the US system of Democracy. Let’s face facts; Voters will. Never be properly informed to vote, knowing what goes on behind the curtain of US power. But that’s the Democracy we are stuck with; and Thank God! And those Dogs are HUGE.

ABC had Liz Cheney on the Sunday show today. She was great and clear. Later Chris Christie came on. He was not asked about Ms Cheney and did not offer an opinion.

I simply regretted giving the show my time again in hopes either would happen. That show is a joke

Yes, the media is actively helping trump by “sanewashing”. One more way they normalize Trump and participate in creating a false equivalency. Just quote him directly, and screw it if it’s incomprehensible. They need to be called on it and leaned on heavily

I shared this on facebook publicly, prefaced by four words I never imagined I would write: "Dick Cheney is right" and followed by another four words I never thought I would right: "Thank you Dick Cheney"

I never knew that he and Liz were behind that letter.

Timothy Snyder says we “ shouldn’t obey the fascists in advance” but that’s exactly what the press is doing. Knowing that their ability to stay in business if Trump returns to the White House depends on their willingness to praise and normalize him they telegraph ahead their willingness to act in a subservient manner.

Why? Because Trump is worth millions of clicks which in turn means millions of dollars. The MSM is anticipating a massive payday in the event Trump wins.

Why? That they’ll wind up on their knees like the press in Hungary never enters their minds. The right wing press is already lined up to profit from the Restoration. And ready to broadcast the hangings of Trump’s “enemies.”

But wouldn't it be just as great a story to publish the gibberish word for word?

I see what you mean, but I don't know that I see the malevolence at the New York Times in the way everyone describes here. It's just that, as with all things Trump, every single issue that comes up with him is unprecedented.

I mean, when has America had such an evil man as president? As if that weren't enough, he got voted out, then took a leisurely four years to get convicted of 34 felonies and rape, all while playing golf, then RETURNS to run again with the most diabolical and authoritarian plan for governing in Project 2025!

Every inch of this is INSANITY. Every minor detail feels like a boulder deserving of its own textbook. So when the Times and other papers "sanewash" his words, it's because that's always been their job. Since the paper's inception, that's what the New York Times has always done...interpret words and events in ways that are digestible and understandable.

That said, I completely agree with your POV. Yet for the Times to do what you're suggesting, the paper would have to pivot from its attempt to report straight news and move somewhat into a new type of news reporting that incorporates opinion. Because if a story says that "what Trump said today at his economic policy conference made absolutely no sense," is that reporting or is it opinion? The editors will have to seriously approach this issue in some kind of new way, and I don't know what the answer is.

Then again, it was perfectly okay for them to trash Biden's state of mind.

Crap. Just forget everything I said. I don't even know what I'm trying to say. You're all right. End of story.

If they do what the republican candidate for superintendent of education in NC has suggested, they can make some money showing Obama's execution on pay per view.
