You and the creator of The Circus who’s a pure democrat. What a sight that the 2 can actually sit together and be on tv together. Tell John he ended the show 1 year too early.
President Biden has done what his opponent could never do, set his ego aside and do what is best for the country. God bless him. Now we can stop staring at him and put our focus on what is Job One, keeping a fascist psychopath from regaining the Oval Office.
ABSOLUTELY! Joe Biden is a patriot in the mold of Geo Washington! And he has just done what no man since Washington has done. No, not even LBJ. And when I look at his actual legislation in three years I think he will be remembered (assuming the country continues) as one of the BEST presidents in our history -- coming hard on the heels of the winner of WORST one, who left the worst mess EVER for Biden to clean up with one hand tied behind his back!
Well, since you wrote this, Biden is out and has endorsed Harris.
I want to say thank you to Joe for his service in the Senate, as VP for eight years and for the last three years of sanity in the White House. I know this was a tough decision, but the country needs to rid itself of Trump once and for all and, sadly, you are not in a position to get that job done.
I don't care what the polls say because the polls are constantly wrong. But we definitely know that this is going to totally recast the landscape of this election.
While I appreciate your comment about fragmenting the Dems, I think the threat of Trump is too much for people to abandon Harris. The key will be to pick a unifying VP such as Shapiro from Pennsylvania. Joe Manchin might also be a good choice but I doubt he wants to play ball. One thing they definitely do not want to do is pick a woman. Much as a two woman ticket might be unique, it would not play well with a lot of men.
Well, those of us got our wish, so let's make it count and kick Donald's ass!
Biden has endorsed Harris. Jamie Harrison and his people need to get in touch with every single delegate to the convention, tomorrow. We don't really have the time for a secret ballot, they need to make their choice known now. In this case I presume Kamala wins. If so choosing the VP becomes the fight if they want to have one. Personally I believe it needs to be a moderate white male from a state they don't already have but could win. I would prefer a governor who has shown no interest in being president. Roy Cooper fits that to a T. The thing is this needs to be decided before August 19. We cannot afford a floor fight at the convention, and we certainly can't afford a cluster like 1968. The country just saw a convicted felon spend an 90+ minutes mostly lying. I thank God for Joe Biden, the job he has done as president has been nothing short of remarkable and to put his own ego aside like this for the good of the country is his final act of sacrifice for America. And we all know that TFG would never even consider it.
Okay. Now that it has happened my first thought was “this is wrong.” Until I heard a Harris/Buttigieg ticket during a conversation of who she would choose as VP. I actually felt excited.
Well. Lots of strong feelings being expressed, most often from a strongly partisan perspective, it seems.
<sigh>
I at least largely agree with Mr. Sykes’ comments (in the pre-drop-out announcement context in which they were presented), and would still point to a key paragraph:
“This decision is not about Joe Biden. It’s about the country. A lot of folks out there feel badly for the president; and all of this is undoubtedly quite painful. But the presidency is not a lifetime achievement award for past good deeds. The winner of this November’s election could determine the nation’s future for decades.”
Though it was an announcement that had to come from Biden, it was still not (entirely, or even mostly, really) about Joe Biden. Biden declared that he dropped out for the good of the country (and his party). He did the right thing in putting the welfare of the nation above his own desires. The decision is one that will reverberate far and wide, for decades. There’s been too much focus on the one man; with the possible exception of Washington, no president has ever been, nor, I believe, will ever be, indispensable. All should respect Biden for his many accomplishments. But that list of accomplishments does not wash away the truths of his condition and his fitness, or lack thereof, to either (a) defeat Trump in the general election, or (b) serve well as President of the United States.
There seems to be a prompt—though not, in my view, overwhelming or even convincing—groundswell of support for Kamala Harris as the new standard-bearer for the Dems. Charlie here seems to think there’s just no chance of anyone else climbing to the top rung of the ticket. I’ll just say that I hope the Democratic Party makes some good choices, both tactically and strategically.
Oh, and there’s also this: a little Mencken goes a long ways.
"buncombe" Thank you
As always a truly well thought and presented argument for good sense and really clear thinking.
Good to see that Senator RonAnon has caught on to the 'second gunman' theory of the Butler PA assassination attempt.

You got your wish. He's gone. Not going to run. You can stop stomping on him now. May God bless you.
I’m angry. The GOP wants to run our lives. Read project 2025. The only way to stop them is to vote blue.
My dog Oliver unequivocally refuses to jump into my pool! He’s a rescue mutt who’s unfamiliar with the joys of swimming! 🤣

President Biden: In case you don’t recognize it, this is called love of country
Loved the dog pics.

I'm reading this just after Biden dropped out. Sad but a relief. Thank you Joe, good job.

But no matter who is on that ticket we have to support them because t***p has to be beaten.

I am a Baltimorean of 33 years. You will never win an argument with me quoting Mencken. Sorry, Charlie.
Charlie, are you up towards Minocqua? or Rhinelander? Used to go up there. Wisconsin sure is beautiful. And great fishing. (Jealous!)
