So proud of Liz. It's nice to be able to be proud of any Republican at this stage.

And enjoyed reading the part about your own journey. I remembered you in 2016 being the one and only to stand up to Trump on talk radio and followed you to The Weekly Standard to The Bulwark. I love seeing you on MSNBC, but I do wish you still had a podcast of some kind! Even if just weekly?

They both were incredible. I’d love to see Liz Cheney as Secretary of Defense and I can’t believe I’m saying this.

Dolan is not now, nor has he ever been “the best of men.” You’re easily swayed if all it took was Dolan offering to speak at a funeral. He sat through the dinner and chortled and guffawed and yet, you still say he is a fine man. Your attitude is shameful. The Church is shameful.

Harris is courting the next generation of voters. Her target demographic were not in attendance at the Al Smith dinner.

Just as Harris is rejecting the corporate media’s presumption of pre-eminence in the media world, she is disempowering these groups who wield undeserved power over the election space and who feel entirely entitled to raise money on the “mandatory” nature of these events.

Haley has this singular opportunity of achieving redemption, by showing up at one of these events and telling her followers that she has changed her mind, and endorses Harris after all.

That should easily be more appealing than the grovelling and disrespect she will get from magaworld.

There are many devout Catholics whose faith enriches their lives. But the Catholic hierarchy has for centuries been guilty of callous support for despots and autocrats. The smiling Cardinal at the Al Smith dinner is just another example of this sad history.

Trump being welcomed into the Catholic event surprises me NOT ONE LITTLE BIT. I mean, with this church you can BRIBE your way into heaven! That sounds JUST LIKE the kind of transactional, corrupt organization that Trump LOVES. He's one of them. They're just like him. Except I know of no legit claim that Trump abused children, like so many priests love to do. No, Trump believes in abusing older girls, called women. Especially if his wife is occupied with their child.

I hope you can get her to call out two BS Trump lines:

- "He's anti-war". If we abandon Ukraine, there will be more war, and it will be more likely to involve US troops, either in active combat, or simply being targeted by enemy forces.

- "The Border". Biden made it a point to end the legacy of executive order border stop gaps and solve it with Legislation. It took far too long to make a deal, but they reached a solution and it WOULD have been worth it. And Trump not only killed it, he said "Blame me". So the American people should blame him on November 5th.

It kills me that the Harris campaign isn't using the video and audio of Trump saying "Blame me" for the border..

I am a New Berlin resident, longtime Bulwark listener/subscriber, political independent, and a current volunteer with Waukesha County Dems, knocking on doors. Is this event open to the public?

And to their paywall. I wouldn’t give a nickel to the NYT. Especially after they ‘reported’ that TFG talked about ‘golf’ last night and not the size of some dudes schlong. 🤦‍♂️ They’re a cancer

WTAF?????

Trump apparently wove Jack Nicklaus' genitalia into his rally in Pennsylvania yesterday for quite a few minutes. Not exactly sure what that had to do with his advertised topic which was the economy. But you know the Orange Genius, we are just too stupid to understand "The Weave".

I keep going back to Chris Cillizza's posts on why people are supporting Trump and continue to shake my head as I try to understand their circular logic. https://chriscillizza.substack.com/p/why-do-people-vote-for-trump-part-fa1

But I busted a gut this morning on a meme I had seen earlier this year but had forgotten. It was a picture of Jim Jones and picture of Trump with the caption, "What is the difference between Jim Jones and Donald Trump? Trump would make people pay for the poisoned Kool Aid."

He was waxing poetic about Arnold Palmer's junk, but close enough ;)

Arnold Palmer is to Jack Nicklaus as Trump is to Jim Jones.

As usual, the dogs seem to be disaffected by the political BS.

Glad to hear that you will be moderating a discussion with Harris and Cheney on Monday. Hopefully, you'll change some minds.

I was listening to Michael Steele's podcast on Friday when he talked with Mike Madrid (https://www.thebulwark.com/p/how-latino-voters-are-transforming). Madrid explained how he thinks that the pollsters are getting things wrong about Harris. He believes that the polls are writing off some responses to their polling questions as outliers and that Harris is actually up potentially by 10 or more points. He gives a lot of examples that support his analyses of the data. We can only hope that Madrid is correct.

The Al Smith dinner was a total and utter shit show. I think these people placate Trump to avoid him becoming an even worse asshole than he already is. If Dolan had called him out, can you imagine the childish tantrum Trump would have thrown? There would have been no end. So they just let him go on hoping that the public will do their job for him. In the end, no one does the job and Trump just keeps tossing his shit everywhere he goes.

You ended on a great high note with the statement from Mikel Holt. What a great endorsement Charlie. Yes, you have changed from your pre-2016 days, but in a good way. I too have moderated as I have gotten older and possible wiser. There are battles that must be taken on such as with the deficit. But there are many other "battles" that are, in the end, really inconsequential such as those about LGBTQ+ rights.
