The favorite phrase of the protesting left is, "This is what democracy looks like!" Well, my friends, I say to you... this is what democracy looks like.
You've pushed so hard to the left, why are you surprised when the other side pushes back? Go to the courts and win there. You will not find a sympathetic ear here. For I say with you...
This is what democracy looks like!

Shout it with me! This is what democracy looks like!
My daughter has applied to Wesleyan (awaiting response today 😬) and I keep sharing President Roth’s articles and now this interview to give her faith in a US liberal arts education now. We live in the UK and boy how our feelings have shifted from initial enthusiasm visiting colleges in September and to fear of the current climate. President Roth’s outspoken defence of free speech and “guardrails” of safety give us much needed confidence to diffuse our anxiety about this life decision that have been giving me insomnia. Thank you for your leadership and I hope more university presidents and deans take inspiration from your bravery.
Mr. Sykes, this is one of the best discussions you have had to date. We definitely need more leaders like President Roth to speak up and resist any and all unlawful actions by the current administration.
Thank you very much for telegraphing this glimmer of hope.
President Roth is a gem. Why aren't more college president's speaking out? I did notice the President of Princeton did recently. The major law firms or even any law firm seem to be silent. And these people are usually very articulate.
People don't seem to be alarmed by any of the actions of the Trump administration. I am in an absolute panic.
We are witnessing the fleecing of America and because it hasn't affected them personally (yet), they offer no protest.
The Nobel Peace Prize should go to those who bring real peace—not those giving Putin time to prepare for another war.
Putin, backed by China, Iran, and proxies, pretends Russia has won while struggling to send reinforcements without full mobilization. Soaring military costs and sanctions are crushing Russians' livelihoods, driving up prices. Now is the time to intensify pressure, securing a just peace for Ukraine—not surrendering to Putin’s ultimatums and his anti-Western coalition’s attempts to humiliate democracy. I believe that one of the great losses in secondary education is that most high schools no longer require students to take debate class. Properly taught debate class gives students tools for discussing challenging topics in a respectful way without reverting to personal attacks. And practicing building a case for a point of view different than your own would really be useful now.
Your conversation with Wesleyan University President Roth was great! Nice to know I'm not the only one pushing back.
If SSA cuts back on services Trump is going to face a shitstorm of complaints from MAGA let alone the rest of retirees. He won't be able to take it and will likely cave in a heartbeat.
The interesting thing will be to see what the Courts do and if he follows their rulings. I am betting after today's rebuke by the Chief Justice might just set off a battle royale between those two.

My daughter went to Wes. It's a great place in every respect.
What an amazing man. I would love to take a class with him too. It gives me hope to hear him. Thank you Charlie and President Roth.

Baby Eli -AHHHHH!!!!
Mine sleeps the same way. 🥰
Such a good podcast, your conversation with Michael Roth. If I was looking at colleges I would consider Wesleyan.
Very cute puppy!
Thanks for a most enlightening conversation!
Great interview, Charlie!
Like Holman displays, as well as all the incompetent and anti competent (as Mona Charen says) cabinet members, they are simply mouth pieces for Trump.
