Independence Day came and went with little fanfare this year. A small and quiet gathering of friends and pets, sitting around talking about the future and what we have to do.

It was a HOT 🥵 day, like the state of our country … but very similar to what July 4, 1776 must have been like. WE KNOW THE MISSION‼️ We hear the call to action from Moses. 💙🇺🇸

Reading Thomas Jefferson's rather overwrought IMO diatribe against King George, with or without the references to the Indians, one is reminded of the potential dangers of autocratic dictatorship which our forefathers were well aware of. King George must laugh though to be compared to DJT, as compared to DJT he was the epitome of justice, tolerance, fairness, lawfullness, and restraint.

The real irony on the 4th though is celebrating patriotism at a time our country is lead by a "man", (and his regime) who make Benedict Arnold look like the epitome of patriotism, loyalty, and trustworthiness.

American greatness RIP.

Interestingly I saw an older couple wearing matching shirts for Independence Day. The shirts stated supporting Kings since 1776.

Instead, she chose to be a low-rent Lindsey Graham.

I wrote you a song about this.

But I mis-spelled Lindsey. Oops.

Charlie Marty Barron who was the editor at the Washington Post, who left shortly after Jeff Bezos took over

A integral honest journalist, newsman editor believing in the freedom of the press

He was editor at the Boston Globe and broke the child sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church before going to the Washington Post

He wrote a book in 2023

“ Collusion of power: Trump Bezos, and the Washington Washington Post”

The slogan over the door of the Washington Post says( if Bezos has not had it removed)

“DEMOCRACY DIES IN DARKNESS”

He would be a good guest for you have on the podcast talking about the role of the Free Press in our democracy especially since Jeff Bezos has totally capitulated and become one of the oligarchy.

The fact that the members of the current government are either ignorant of, or do not own, the values encased in the Declaration of Indepedence, places them at war against the America people who have the unenviable task of replacing this government in accordance with the instruction contained in the Declaration. It is time to say NOT IN AMERICA and do what is required to be a free people again.

Yes Linda, but you cannot afford to accept what is being done to your country. Resist and protest whenever you can, write to your representatives, join with like-minded people in your community or online. Become a thorn in the side of those who have taken your rights as a free people.

I was watching ships of all sizes and nationalities going past Liberty Island where I was with hundreds of others on July 4th, 1976. The entire day was a celebration of our democracy, even with its faults, from the east coast to the west coast and every place in between. And as I said, other countries were celebrating with us. My 25-yr-old self was wondering if I'd be around for the 250th July 4th. God willing, I will be alive, hugging my furgirl Nomi, possibly from MN where my sister and her family live. But I fear that I won't be celebrating unless R Americans and the courts find the courage and spines to remember what the Founding Fathers (and Mothers) risked their lives and fortunes for, and stop King POS and his traitorous ilk in the Cabinet.

Eva, first of all, Happy 4th! Whenever I see the stature of liberty, I think of that great Simon and Garfunkel song;" An American tune" written by Paul Simon. This one lyric really stuck with me: " I dreamed I was flying. High up above I could clearly see, the statue of liberty, floating away to see. We come on the ship they call the Mayflower. We come on the ship that sailed the moon. We come at the ages most uncertain hour and sing an American tune. Simon wrote it during an incredible uncertain time.(1969) But the last line was powerful and uplifting.

Now that the Republican Big Beautiful Bill and the usual July 4th pieties have passed, it's time for a reckoning. There is only one item in the BBB that should cause truly existential concern – the allocation of $170 billion to immigration and border enforcement-related activities. The remaining provisions – outrageous and dangerous as they surely are – are really just distractions flooding the zone. The Republicans don't really care that much about tax breaks for the rich. They don't really care that much about the cost of health care. They don't really care that much about SALT, green energy, the national debt, SNAP, taxes on tips and so on.

The Republicans don't even really care that much about the presence of undocumented migrants. What they really do care about is finally achieving the success of their coup d'etat which failed on January 6, 2021. The principal use of that $170 billion will be to fund and create an executive paramilitary – untrammeled by the limits on domestic military action – capable of bringing down our democratic institutions and structure. These neo-Brown Shirts, under the leadership of Stephen Miller and staffed by pardoned J-6 convicts, will look a lot like those led by the Nazi Ernst Rohm in 1930's Germany. Perhaps Miller and his Republican friends will end up like Rohm, but the work will have been done.

Huzzah!

John Adams warned us that:

"Liberty, once lost, is lost forever."

He added:

"I fear that in every elected office, members will obtain an influence by noise not sense. By meanness, not greatness. By ignorance, not learning. By contracted hearts, not large souls...There must be decency and respect."
