There has always been a strain of ugliness, vile behaviors, and crass ignorance bubbling beneath the surface of American culture; we've all seen it slither out in various circumstances in our lives from bullies on scholl playgrounds to fraternity hazing to torch-waving Nazis to basic bigotry on display throughout the decades, but there was a generalized, social agreement (at least amongst the majority) that that behavior WAS unacceptable, unwelcome; to be kept quiet, hidden, unspoken, stopped. Then Trump slithered down his escalator and started mocking disabled reporters, sliming women, threatening opponents, and behaving like the worst kind of cretinous bro -- the exact kind that repel sane women and compel mothers to make sure their sons never emulate -- and the gates of Ugly Hell opened up. He gave permission to the very worst of people and they LOVED IT. We see evidence of that every day and in every single instance you cited in this piece.

Our house was quarantined and we were confined to our darkened living room on our mattresses. Long story short; we lived but two of my brothers had brain damage and were slow to recover fully. Periodically my wife (who sits in our great room reading romance novels) rush toniur widow to look outside to see if the craziness is around us. Thankfully it is not - yet. I shake my head; when you look at the world in general it is obviously not a good time to be a Russian or a communist chineese.
