As I try to understand why Republicans in Congress have abdicated their oath of office, I really wish some curious investigative journalist would talk with each Republican representative and senator to see what kind of threats of harm and from whom they and their families have received them in the last year. In keeping with the notion that we are seeing a crime family take over the country, and on the heels of Lisa Murkowski’s admission that “we are all scared,” I think the public that continues to sleep through or support this administration would wake up and recognize the thuggery. If they saw what I suspect a tally of thousands of threats and from whom they have come, all support would fade. Please, someone pursue this!
Dems aren't very active in dealing with this takeover. If there were proposals to combat the very clear wrongdoing, it might be different. Federal judges are not our elected representatives, but they seem to be most aggressive in highlighting the Constitutional issues and violations of the law. Dems in Congress are relatively silent. If both legislative and judicial brnaches actively dispute the endless stream of lies and point out the very frequent failures, our system of government would work better. Every executive order should be immediately met with multiple lawsuits. Congress needs to use member campaign funds and stop asking for donations. Let America see what they can do and then maybe there will be a positive response. If the legislative process isn't working, use the bully pulpit each senator and representative has.

Thank you both for the excellent analysis. In my opinion the best way to fight the Trump takeover is to unite the opposition. That means creating a coalition of center right, center left and the progressive left. The only difference among these groups is policy. ALL of these Americans will certainly agree on first principles and can speak in unity against the dangerous and lawless administration currently in power and those seeking to consolidate authoritarian power.
The first step is to change rhetoric. We have to embrace our universal rights to opinion and speak of our political rivals with respect. You may not like the idea of a “green new deal” but nature is important to all of us. You may not like universal healthcare but we all (center and progressive) agree that the healthcare system we have is inadequate and that this administration will make it worse by leaps and bounds.
Bottom line, we have to embrace our diversity of ideas and our tradition of legislating for the common good. Most importantly, if we don’t join together, the authoritarians will prevail and that is not an option. We can debate the issues once we have our country back.
We’re just preaching to the choir. People have been educated. Let’s fight at the front lines.
Challenge every Democratic legislator to glue themselves to a Republican legislator everyday and bombard them with questions as to why they are allowing this administration to destroy our country. Ask them the hard questions. Attend press conferences. Record and post every time they do this. Then I will believe you care.
Anything that Trump is saying right now especially about Ukraine saying oh Russia doesn’t wanna have peace blah blah blah is him responding to the polls
And also to the applause that present Zelensky got at Pope Francis funeral
Everything is always transactional. Everything is always determined by a poll or a popularity contest.

The victim blaming of Ukraine needs to stop, and everybody needs to cry out, speak out protest, loud and clear against that narrative of victim, blaming the people of the Ukraine and Zelensky

All must be done to stop this narrative and speak the truth as to how this war started

Same thing about standing up for due process as they work to create a narrative, focusing on the person they have denied due process too as the bad guy and it was OK to ship to an outside country horrible prison

I am wondering if anybody saw Marco Rubio on meet the press yesterday declaring that there has to be a wait-and-see with Ukraine to decide if it’s “an endeavor” that’s worth pursuing ?!!
Rubio, our Secretary of State says “they” need to decide whether supporting another free sovereign country from being invaded, terrorized, constant bombing, and killing the innocent people of Ukraine in order to take them over and take territory to be under Russian rule is a worthwhile “ endeavor”!!!
Marco Rubio says “they” need to determine if it is a worthwhile endeavor for the United States to do this to support and help protect democracy, freedom, and sovereignty for an ally.
There are no more adjectives or words to describe this craziness coming out of his mouth.

As far as the Ukraine goes, they need to fight not acquiesce, and we need to help them not acquiesce
The world can see Russia and Putin are the primary aggressor
