Heartbreaking, what is happening in Sudan, Isaiah 58, that you shared is also great. " Shout it aloud, do not hold back..." Only 3 USAID workers were sent to Myanmar after the massive earthquake that killed a few thousand people. Then they were fired shortly after they arrived. Several countries sent help, including large groups of aid workers from China. We are losing our footing in the world.
You and your wife are my favorite writing couple.. I need a stiff drink after reading To The Contrary and champagne after reading North of the Tension Line : )
Trump, his admin, followers, allies don't give a thought about the less fortunate. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool. I have always karma is a bitch and I am glad I am not facing theirs.
As a child I remember when saying grace it included a prayer for the children starving in India, that even smallest gifts matter by collecting spare change for the Red Cross, and the experience of sheer joy by a full box of coins while trick-or-treating for UNICEF...yes that was years ago in another time, but that's what pains me when I think about what the "Numb" are teaching the children today.
The food I left on my plate or scrapped into the disposal or trash would have saved these babies. We cannot ship table scraps but we can ship excess food stuff we have. We are better than this. There doesn’t seem to be an ounce of empathy in this administration. At home or abroad.
It's amazing how far a little bit of money goes to saving lives of these starving people. If you just sent the cost of burger and fries once a week, you could keep several children alive. Better yet, inventory your giving to places that are saving animals -- no lack of them looking for money -- and redirect that money to a charity that will make a difference in the lives of these poor children.
As clergy, I simply cannot understand the complete rejection of Jesus’ teachings by people who call themselves “Christian.” It feels almost evil. I am utterly heartsick over what is happening as a result of our cruel policies. I am heartbroken over our seeming lack of empathy. Who have we become?
I haven't been able to understand the "Christian" rejection of Christ's teaching for 50 years or more. Current "Christians" are what made me renounce Christianity.
If you haven't already read John Stuart Mill's Essay on Liberty, I recommend it highly.
I, too, cannot understand our fellow "Christians" like of Trump and his cruelty. Jesus said if you do this for the least of my people, you do it for me. My immigrant grandparents taught me love of neighbor. Many a free bag(s) of food went out to neighbors down on their luck, widowed, single mothers who had little to help their children. Their small "mom and pop" grocery store was a respite for those who needed help. My grandmother often said that no one should go to bed hungry. We may not be able to save the world, but we can start showing that love right here in our own communities.
They aren't Christian at all. Here's a great thought from Rev. Jim Wallis:
Christianity is not a religion that gives some people a ticket to heaven and makes them judgmental of all others. Rather, it’s a call to a relationship that changes all our other relationships.
"Woke" used to mean that you had woken up to the injustices around you.
"Woke" has now been perverted to mean support for minor issues, like the acceptance of non-traditional sexual identity. It is now also used to denigrate your political opponents.
I did quite a bit of study on the biblical Psalms for my doctoral dissertation, and what completely blew my mind was the ONE thing - one, singular thing - that always aroused God's anger: exploitation of the poor and defenseless. Every single time. The imagery in the Psalms is striking. Christians who claim otherwise need to revisit these ancient songs, not to mention the gospels. Jesus didn't turn over tables as a show of power. He turned over tables because the poor were being exploited.
Random thought: MAGAs are the true RINOs

Great point!! Thanks
JFK started USAID??
But JFK was opposed to the CIA, and USAID is a CIA front.

Happy for Gus!

How about feeding the homeless right here in the US?
“Ah, who among us can forget the immortal words of FDR in 1940, “Adolph, stop!”
Omg I laughed out loud. Shouldn’t be funny but oh, to the point! Thank you Charlie 😊

I have great admiration for Wallis. He’s been a progressive and wise voice for years.
How much money would be needed to help aid the starving? Could we raise enough money to make a difference?
How can you possibly “lose” a large German Shepherd? I hate people😰
I know what "woke" mean in the black community but does it mean something different when used so widely?
Yes, it does.
