You’re right to point out the profound contradiction and injustice at the heart of the January 6th insurrection and its aftermath. The fact that the man who instigated, fueled, and failed to act during the Capitol attack — Donald Trump — seems to be on the brink of returning to the highest office in the land is a chilling reflection of how far the country has strayed from its foundational values of accountability, justice, and truth.

The billionaire class is firmly in control. How many of them are in Trump’s charade of a Cabinet?? Everything is a con. The weak link in the White House is the grifter- in-chief. It could very well all blow up in his face. The billionaire parts do not make a governing whole. All of them are out for themselves. It’s soooo obvious ie Meta’s Zuckerberg, Amazon, Musk. The Oligarchy is in place. Who will be running it in 4 years? Trump’s expertise is grifting. He’s pushing 80. It’s a house of cards. He’s lying to those common folk who elected him. Will they sit and wait patiently for what they were promised. I think not. Patience, patriots, patience. The Emperor will loose his clothes.

Whether it was accidentally or on purpose, djt has illuminated many of the cracks, crevices , pot holes and sink holes in our social/political life. Now he is conducting a master class on how to exploit all the vulnerabilities.

Your pupsters saved the day, Mr. Sykes. Best wishes.

I was in Valentine Nebraska on a regular sales route. I knew something was going to go down as I grabbed my usual breakfast mcmuffin from McDonalds. The only one for a 3 hours drive. I clicked on my Hulu and watched a few short minutes later as Chuck Todd exclaimed, "did they just shuffle Mike Pence off the senate floor"!? I WILL NEVER FORGET. But. The problem is (this is what voters want). A shop owner a short distance away vehmently spits, "he deserves to be shot"! This statement because Biden killed an XL Pipeline attempting to drive its pipes through the only underground fresh water lake under arable land in the world. So one tries to overthrow the government and my country cousins call him a hero? The other is fighting climate change and needs to be shot? Somebody wake me up to the country cousins I once knew.

We all remember. We will never forget. His hubris at trying to change the history we watched LIVE is only delusions of grandeur again. He’s poison. A con man and a liar. A clear and present danger to America and all its citizens.

Yes, this does feel like a form of national psychosis. For those of us who believe in accuracy and truth, this turn of events is traumatic. Cowards have created a monster, but we must all pay the price.

1. I am not a vengeful or hateful person but I believe that shame has a place in social order. And yes, I hold those who were convicted by a jury of their peers or in a bench trial, or who pleaded guilty, responsible for assaulting police officers, and not deserving of pardons or clemency. WHEN they are released by Trump, they should be shunned by their communities. Many of them know they were in the wrong and were appropriately and fairly convicted. Let them all apologize to all of us, then I will consider not turning my back. This is not about discriminating against a broad category of persons. Nope, it's personal.

2. I want Mike Johnson to come right out and say he does not support police, "back the blue" is a stunt, and declare out loud that he does not support the plaque honoring the J6 police or any other legislation that supports emergency responders. Dems should hold up everything until that plaque is installed.

Thank you, Charlie for this heartfelt and comprehensive review of the day, January 6, 2021. Your description of this historical event places it alongside December 7 and September 11, days that will always live in infamy. I am so disheartened, however, that the events of January 6 were perpetrated by Americans, and not people of an entirely different culture or country. Keep up your excellent writing. It is so important for the record.

Charlie,

I agree with days of infamy. So many people have failed to do their duty with the necessary alacrity to prevent today’s shameful return of a would-be dictator.

I wanted to write, but my genre is as a memoirist and nothing comparable has happened in my lifetime. Nixon was not in the same league. God willing, nothing else will!
