Hi Charlie. About Substack subscriptions, I for one see the importance of monetarily supporting independent journalism more now that any other point in my lifetime. And, there just no way I can support everyone with subscriptions ranging from $50-$80 a year. It would be thousands of dollars a year. Isn't there some way that you and others can give readers an option of just making a donation of 10 or $20 without becoming a member? I don't qualify for special financial discounts, I just can't support everybody. I don't need the benefits that come with being a subscriber to every single substack that interests me, but I often would like to contribute. And it seems like there's nothing in between a free subscription and paying for a year. I can't be the only one who thinks about this and maybe there's a solution already that I don't know about. Curious about your thoughts. Thank you.
Charlie, thank you as always. I am very glad to be one of your readers. You help me greatly with your coverage, and your kindly reminders that I am not crazy. You are a blessing. Here’s to hope, and an informed citizenry.
This is good news for assertion of the rule of law and some semblance of order. Let's see how Stephen Miller spins this in Trump's "favor." As far as the dissenters, Thomas and Alito were bad enough when they were nominated to be on the SCOTUS. Since their nomination, they have devolved to a point where not even their nominating president would recognize them. It just goes to show that no level of education makes one immune to incredulity if ideology (a priori conclusions) are the guiding "light."
Charlie, I am proud and pleased to support you as a paying subscriber. Thank you for the cross postings. It's a great idea--much appreciated.
I need to give you credit for artwork. In a post a short while ago, you included a brilliant AI-generated cartoon of trump as an overstuffed king on a throne with a burger-adorned scepter in his tiny hand. I used it on the poster I made for the No Kings protest today. It got a lot of laughs. Thanks!
I was at the protests in Richmond yesterday, Nancy. Greater numbers than two weeks ago! I was coming up with a lot of high minded signs but The Man suggested I keep it simple, so I went with a homemade "FDT" sign.
The Virginia flag has become extremely popular at the protests and waving outside of people's homes -- it depicts Virtue vanquishing Tyranny and includes the words Sic Semper Tyrannis.
The church where Patrick Henry gave his "give me liberty or give me death" speech is just down the street from me. It's comforting and inspiring to be able to touch that history in these times.
I am so sorry to hear about Pete. He is such a cute dog. I completely agree about independent journalism on Substack. You have a great column that I read daily. It is terrific when writers on Substack contribute such amazing work that is not behind a paywall. Here is one such writer that I also follow and read, that writes critical essays on our times and is not behind any paywalls. This person provides an in-depth understanding and discussion on many of the important ideas in opposing the Trump regime. Their Substack has a current series on Hannah Arendt, whose timeless insights and her take on power and Totalitarianism helps us to make sense of the chaos and authoritarianism of the Trump regime Give it a read, you will be smarter for it. https://rtgreenwald.substack.com/p/a-guide-to-the-upcoming-conversation.
Absolutely agree with the hopefulness of the supreme court’s action and the importance of supporting the independent writers, artists and news sources on Substack. Also the importance and joy of doggies. Thanks Charlie. 🐣🇺🇸🐰
No wonder SCOTUS is firming up on these threats. It's a hair on fire moment for them and the Court's survival is at stake. Too bad that Thomas and Alito don't understand that. Maybe they do and are being consummate cowards, being dependent on the majority of the others to do the heavy lifting. Or maybe they're just addled old extremist men. Unbelievable.
In any event, the scoundrels and thieves of American democracy are becoming far more recognizable.
Dear sweet Pete🙏❤️
RIP, Pete. 🙏 Such a good dog. ❣️

The supremes were a great group of singers. If only the sc could be as well liked and appreciated.

Yes, I got an official letter that stated my SNAP benefits were cut by 14% due to Biden's 2.5% SS increase. These men are in charge?
I am sorry to hear that. Just so I’m clear, the Trump administration sent you a notification of reduction in benefits—and blamed Biden?
I would not count on the support of Thomas or Alioto. They are in Trump's corner. Let's not forget Thomas's wife, Virginia.

There were several FTDs here too! I was at the rally in Atlantic City--our numbers also are growing.

Hopefully, events like this do mean the wind is shifting against the usurpers in the White House.

Sweet Pete….my favorite boy💜
