Why not just stay on France?

Charlie, I appreciate your words so much. I looked at my two dogs today and told them, I don’t know how I’d do this without them. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

I feel tonight like some sort of wounded animal who thought the hunter didn’t really mean to hurt me but then my “fellow Americans” fired the kill shot.

Following the sentiment of your title, I no longer want to hear from politicians that such crass behavior and lies are not who we

are.

On the contrary, that’s exactly who we are or, literally what we prefer. As an astute political observer opined… “people generally get the government they deserve.”

Did she lose because she’s black or a woman? I’m betting on both. That’s the only explanation I can think of.

I doubt many of us international voices will be heeded, but truly comparable societies such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand and England continue to embrace centrist or centre-left governance, with demagoguery relegated to the sidelines or flurries of influence on a particular referendum or plebiscite.

What is happening in America is not normal. It is frightening.

I was so very wrong about women getting Harris elected in a landslide. What a fool I am. Fpotus gained in every single demographic, in all groups except Black women. Obviously they are the smartest ones in our electorate. I heard one pundit say some people didn't vote because they were afraid of another coup attempt. How pathetic are our voters? If, a big if, we are lucky to win a House majority, Jeffries can stay legislation just like Republicans have done for the past two years. Otherwise, we are going to be a full blown, hard right, dystopia. A really nasty patriarchal, evangelical christian theocracy, with women, poor dark skinned peoples, and LGBTQ persons being savagely treated. A resistance will have to be formed, with a minimum two generations of fighting back. Sigh.

Thank you for the dog pictures, They help somewhat. I am so disheartend. As a conservative and a Christian, seeing so many who wanted a king/dictator instead of a president, one who is crass, cruel, without any constraints whatsoever is disheartening.

I'm wondering just how my family will take having their social security taken away (my uncle is living on that right now, and my mother on it and retirement, same with my dad). Yet they voted for this f***er.

Then there's my brother who also did the same. None of them remember historical lessones or care to even learn and once those tariffs hit and trade wars are started, they will probably not even care. Nor care about our allies.

When it happens, tell them "You voted for this."

America needs a civics lesson, and apparently they want it the hard way.

So many of us are not only stunned, but heartbroken. THIS is who we are? Hateful, misogynistic, foul-mouthed bigots? And as others have stated, thanks for not blaming Harris. The fact that this nation was willing to elect an elderly, mentally ill criminal who is thoroughly unqualified over a qualified woman who could bring us together speaks volumes For those of us who are looking for a light in the darkness - a way to move forward productively - we look to you and other wise sages for wisdom and guidance.

These are precisely my thoughts today. The hardest part to deal with today is to see the majority of the American public in a way in which I did not see them before. That they would choose this cruel criminal to be our president and to abandon our allies is so disheartening to me. Thank you for not blaming Harris for this result. She confronted misogyny and racism. She demonstrated she could build diverse coalitions. She spoke of our aspirations.

I think the fight will be easier BECAUSE we’ve finally been stripped of our illusions. By easier, I don’t mean easy. It’ll be brutal but we won’t be burdened by fantasy (or so is my hope).

I hope Trump heeds Flynn’s warning and immediately gets the best security and lay low for a while. Set up headquarters at Mara Lago. Very good advice!

Yeah, he can charge $50 for a bottle of water for his secret service protection and charge the taxpayers 5x the normal rate for his guards to stay in a bug-ridden room.

More crying, wailing, moaning, screaming, and caterwauling from the Loser Left. This will go on for a while.

But we have begun to push back. And hopefully we'll continue pushing back until every one of them* has been purged from the public sphere.

The country looks like Asheville North Carolina right now. The damage done to the country by Biden / Harris has been severe. But we have the wind at our back for a while, and hopefully Congress will have the backbone to pass laws guaranteeing the integrity of future elections.

Your use of the word 'purge' is something only authoritarians employ.

True. Because if there were, we would never have had Obama and none of the twelve years of Democrat rule under him would have happened.

Not to promote the competition in the blogosphere, Charlie, but Ken White put out something not long ago that's definitely worth a read, I believe. I left him a comment to the effect that I'd vote for this policy without reservation. Especially the F**k Civility clause...
