Socialism is a spectrum and is not the same thing as Communism and Socialism and Capitalism aren’t mutually exclusive. We currently have and want some mix of Socialism and Capitalism (otherwise we shouldn’t have any problem with Social Security disappearing). That being said, the DSA is a little more on the extreme side and does concern me a bit.

I’m really sickened by the alligator infested area in the Everglades. Just plain evil, not to mention kidnapping folks off the streets.

Nice shot of Auggie.

I just read an article of an interview with a former business partner of Elon's that said that Trump has really kicked a hornet's nest by fighting with Elon. Apparently, Elon is even more vindictive than Donald. This guy said be prepared for all out war at some point.

I am starting to really chuckle about all of these silly Mamdani conversations. Does anyone really think he'll bring these idiotic ideas to life? And even if he does, how long can they possibly last before they implode? This just puts New York City on par with San Francisco as far the right is concerned.

Charlie, oligarchs do not matter when you are struggling with paying rent and feeding your family. Yes, it may give the right a way to paint the Democrats as "socialists" but I am betting if the OBBB gets passed, the GOP will have much larger problems winning in 2026 and trying to paint Dems as socialists will be way down on the list.

People are oppressed to the optics of the government in the order. Law abiding people here with scheduled court hearings are not or should not be the target of our government. People working every day in ungodly conditions should not be the targets.

People in full military gear, with rifles and their faces masked, without warrants and no identification should be patrolling the streets search for people with brown or black skin.

I find it interesting that Dems will be condemned as being anti-semetic with this candidate...

Yet MAGAts have proven-over-and-over to be "pro-Israel,' yet "the Jews will not replace us."

As Ricky Ricardo would say, "Lucy, 'splain this to me."

Just FYI, we are SICK of the legacy Democrats & most of the DC pundits & consultants!! I’m an old white woman from rural SW New Mexico. I think you underestimate the level of how much we despise the old guard, with their old ideas, their attachment to the money of the oligarchs, their inability to stop giving Israel a blank check to slaughter an entire population.

They had better change or else be ready to suffer a terrible defeat. During late 2023 thru Election Day 2024, I gave many thousands to the DNC, DLCC, DCCC, & individual Dem candidates.

Since Nov 5 thru today I have not given, nor will I give to any of those legacy entities, not a penny. I’m giving to Voters of Tomorrow, Leaders We Deserve, Zohran Mamdani, Deja Foxx, Kat Abu, AOC, Maxwell Frost, etc

From an Australian perspective I am continually surprised by the negativity Americans attach to the word 'socialism.' Socialism is not communism. In Australia we have universal health care but no-one calls it socialist. We think it is a basic right. This also applies to education and affordable housing, although there is much work to do to create more access to affordable housing.

Jan,

The anti-socialist vibe goes back to the late 1800s when miners in the Rocky Mts., steel workers in Ohio/Pennsylvania, garment workers in northeast cities were spurred by socialist organizers.

Tit-for-tat violence ensued, but it was the unionists blamed for the violence.

In the 1920s, the "Red Scare" was the Naivist reaction against the Bolshvic uprisings in Russia, seeing every immigrant as a Socialist.

Comes the 1950s, the Communist (Socialist) fear, lead to the paranoia that "Godless hoards" would destroy America.

That said "Socialists" is a crude term used to denote "Anti-White America."

For an encapsulation of the early 20th-century anti-union, anti-immigrant, anti-Black reality,

check out the John Sayles film "Mattewan" based on real events of workers organizing in the coal fields of West Virginia.

GREAT SCRIPT, GREAT ACTORS, TRUE STORY!!!

Maybe the ever present warning of “this is playing into trumps hands” is what is actually playing into trumps hands?

The LA ICE protests, Mamdani, trans issues, usaid cuts, etc etc….

What if, instead of preemptively trying to muzzle these movements, argue for both sides, divide, critique it before they do, there was an effort to explain, understand and justify, like what we’ve been affording to Trump voters for a decade now.

Mamdani has more experience in government than Trump did when he became president. His ideas are basically wanting to use taxpayers money to make their lives better, Trump (the tax dodger) is using tax payer money to make his life better and other people’s worse.

The LA Ice protests, in fear of “playing into trumps hands” a handful of shit stirrers got more attention than the thousands of citizens trying to defend their community and being horribly attacked by law enforcement officers and then held to a higher standard of professional behavior.

Everyone thought defending trans rights was “playing into trumps hands”, but maybe everyone spending so much time discussing the right to deny tran’s rights (while ignoring stuff that affects everyone, like the scotus ruling to allow more fecal matter in drinking water) was “playing into trumps hands”.

Defending USAID cuts was going to be “playing into trumps hands” but people in other countries are dead, people here are out of work, we are less influential everywhere, and tons of tax payer money has been essentially lit on fire.

The people fighting Trump aren’t the ones playing into his hands, it’s the people who are warning them against it.

Undue focus on Musk's opinions gives him undeserved agency. His perspective, that of a multi-billionaire who is American by naturalization, is irrelevant to the vast majority of us, and based wholly and only on his own self-interest. Mr. Sykes, please weigh carefully whether your attention to Musk is supportive of our democracy or not.

I want to laugh every time I see the word "kakistocracy." "Kaki" is a more polite word in Hungarian for "shit." (I'd say "poop" would be the right translation). Trump is certainly trying to lead us into being a "shithole country."

Now that the Big Beautiful Bill has survived another step in the process, I am torn between two thoughts. One is hoping everything associated with Trump is defeated. 2. is seeing the 49.8% of the people who voted for this get exactly what they deserve. (the result of their votes) Even though Republicans are now really fretting about the 26 elections, the pull of serving up everything that Trumps wants is more powerful.
