This young press secretary is complicit in all of the pathological lying brainwashing fire hose of misinformation. She is being patted on the back for doing such a “great job” being an attack dog being disrespectful, being belligerent
Administration being insulting
Spreading the lies and misinformation and most of all pleasing Trump .
It is pathetic and sad to see a young woman so emotionally compromised at such a very young age.
Oh my gosh, reading how that press secretary, called the cabinet secretaries “ rock stars” just made me laugh as this is a typical narcissistic thing to say. Over the years I have heard this term rockstar being referred to people taking the place of character, integrity, truth, and honor.
It is simply an image thing a branding thing . It has made me cringe over the years as I keep hearing this being said about people.
About these rich lawyers groveling to Trump. It looks bad, but it is worse.
When they still thought Trump was not the GOP they were still willing to fight the good fight, while raking in the dough. But now that it is clear Trump is fully in charge, they have dropped all pretense and will not defend the law, but just protect their dough. Cowardice personified.
What an amazing spectacle! The POS who thinks he can do anything and everything he wants is unable to tell the president of a two-bit country he couldn't find on a map that he has to return a man sent there by accident. And that president also is completely, despite having the supreme authority in that country, unable to tell his subordinates to put that man, a green card holder, on a plane to the US.
Forget all the other arguments. Start spreading the word that POS has NO POWER to do anything, so why should anyone do anything for him. Maybe the country should believe it and get rid of the no power nonentity squatting in the White House.
I have always enjoyed Charlie going back to his radio days. At that time he was a republican and I was a democrat. I listened everyday anyway. His intelligence was what made his politics so interesting. Glad I found him here . His intelligence still makes for good listening and reading.
Charlie, thanks again for cutting to and through, the bullshit. That said, as things get more and more fucktacularly worse, let's talk about what more can be done. I feel like someone in the stands at a football game.
Okay. I’m about 20 minutes in and have to comment regarding the point you made that Trump controls the agencies that constitute the legal means by which he could be held accountable for his corrupt use of the Presidency. That’s true, but I have to point out that these agencies ultimately operate at the behest of the American electorate. This concept applies to the Presidency as well. I have argued many times in my Substack comments that no one is more responsible for the state of our democracy today that we voters who’ve given our voice over to politicians who we, at the same time, have allowed to be controlled by corporations. WE have the power to turn this all around. WE have to make our voices heard, not only in the tremendous turn out for April 5th’s Hands Off demonstrations, but afterwards by way of our full participation in government. Think. Converse. Vote!
Might be time for all un Americans to go back to their own countries. A green card is no guarantee you are here legally. And there's no telling where you may end up. This is why Trump is telling people to leave on their own free will.
Here is my darkest fear: He has already been murdered or will be murdered in El Salvador. Trump won’t let him come back and talk about what happened to him.
I always love Tim O'Brien. I always learn a lot and am surprised when the interview ends because I feel like it just started.
Also, I hope that Eli had a lovely nap. :)
Right now, honestly, I'm wondering if there is anything worth fighting for now in this country.
Trump and the GOP by being so compliant have decimated this country in a way that I'll never see return to "normal" in my lifetime. By that I mean fair elections, fair government that upholds laws and fair agencies that protect the citizens along with a legal system we can trust. When a complete break down in culture takes place, it doesn't rebuild quickly.
When we see lawyers all lining up and bowing down, thinking they'll just survive to return to normal in 4 years... NO. They just set the precedent. Harvard is the only one to be admired at this time, and I don't wish well to the law firms, universities and institutions who have buckled. I certainly don't wish our Congressmen and women well. They have the voices that can make a difference, and they refuse to use them due to fear? I'm sorry... they're afraid of losing reputation and influence while the rest of us are worried about being able to pay bills, feed our families, have health care or retirement funds or even basic human rights.
For a people - MAGA and Republicans - who said they wanted small government, government out of their business and homes, the actual influence and control the government has over our lives now is stunning. And we have no recourse but protest. Even though I'm happy to see the growing discontent, I fear we're four years too late. Trump and his group had over four years to prepare this plan they're enacting, and his wet dream is to enact the insurrection act
Trump and many Americans have not learned that friends are necessary in a global economy and environment. It's what we've worked on for almost the last century. No matter how much we might want to believe this, we don't exist in a bubble in this world, and we're internationally connected and dependent, and it's ignorant to believe differently. If you want to live in a post apocalyptic-like, basic and sacrificing culture full of extreme income inequality, looking much like Russia does, then just say so, America.
The irony I'm finding in all of this idiocy of MAGA-Make America Great Again- is that we're making America irrelevant. We will and have quickly become the most corrupt country in the world.
It's a huge fall from the "Shining City on the Hill." It may not be darkness that democracy dies in, but it more likely it's ignorance.
Two Magatrumpian Republicans walk into a bar. One says something really stupid, the other replies in kind.
If Hillary painted Trump supporters, at that time with too broad a brush, as deplorables, that pejorative might at this late date be better justified. The gullible have been disabused of their naivety, or hold to that state of innocence but by willful ignorance, by the constipative state of certitude; those better knowing by powers of rationalization supportive of their own advantage. At this late date, anyone supportive of Trump is victim of intellectual inadequacy or guilty of moral turpitude.
Trump's audacity reveals his depth of depravity, his supporters, excepting the mentally impaired, reflective, to varying degree, of that depravity. As first a showman, he creates a spectacle of depravity, an entertainment wherein one may surrender to the savage state, by which one may be elevated as witness to the pain of others.

Sorely needed this podcast today, and Eli under your desk made me happy.
Thanks for this conversation. Tim O'Brien is really interesting. Please have him back soon!

Thanks Charlie & Tim for this sobering conversation as the world's BEST CONMAN destroys America's reputation and economy. Cheers!

Hitler's quote post-Munich would seem to be appropriate for Trump and the law firms, "I saw my enemies, and they are worms."
Thank you for the conversation

James, full respect for your ability transform words to prose. Thank you.
