Since it is D-Day, I've been thinking that we (everyone in this country) have our own D-day trying to defeat this anti-democratic wave trying to drown our country. We have to spend the next 5 months fighting for what we know is best in our country. Differences (political, generational, religious, racial, etc) of every kind pale in comparison to what we have in common (decency, respect for others, love of family, friends and community) must be put aside to stand up for what is right and good. We need a tsunami of people speaking out; young, old, citizens, non-citizens, voters, non-voters-everyone.

Our voices must be heard and overwhelm the lies and negativity. It's not too much to ask.

Love your writing, etc. And dog pix an extra bonus. I have a 14 yo gray faced golden retriever that looks like a lot like Pete. Looking forward to reading more!

A man who posts pictures of his dead pets is a man I would follow anywhere. Here, I thought it just a Midwest thing (see New in Town [2009]) and maybe it is.

The article is great, but most of all I loved seeing the photo of sweet Pete. He touched so many.

I read the DB article for the sole purpose of finding out which republican congressman invited the two thugs seated behind Dr. Fauci. Wasn't even mentioned. Heather Cox Richardson picked up on it:

QAnon conspiracy theorist Ivan Raiklin and convicted January 6 rioter Brandon Fellows were seated behind Fauci today; Fellows made pouty faces when Fauci was describing the death threats he, his wife, and his daughters have endured.

Video creator and political commentator Michael McWhorter noted that Raiklin has made dramatic threats of violence against those he considers members of “the Deep State” and that he should have been nowhere near Fauci. McWhorter also noted that the two men were likely invited to the hearing and that it would be useful to know who invited them. "

Indeed it would be useful.

Re the downfalls of “2000 Mules” and the Epoch Times: great news, good to hear. And the people whom they have suckered will never hear of it, or accept it if they do.

I have always felt sorry for the Republicans who have watched this foul metamorphoses of their party, and either left or been disfellowshipped. This is like a fever dream that has overshadowed the entire country. I can’t wait for the fever to one day break.

Thanks for the “Trying” tip, Charlie, you and the boys have a nice day reveling in the summer!

Charlie, I want to thank you for continuing the fight as staunchly and intelligently as you have. We unfortunately have seen that when some Never Trumpers leave their institutional fort, going back out into the wilderness has a destabilizing and resentful effect on them; they start flirting with Free Press-level contrarianism and then move onto full anti-anti mode soon enough.

You haven’t done that. You continue to be… well, you. Keep fighting, keep thinking, and keep putting things in proper prospective.

So good to still be able to hear your voice, Charlie.

I love the pictures. I agree with your assessment of the degradation of the GOP. Thank you for this!

I love those boys! Maybe on day I’ll get another Sheba or Duke but until I get some pain relief for my back and feet I don’t see it happening so I’ll just love my kitties. Speaking of kitties I sure hope Tom Nichols is on a mission to find his next best furry friend and that’s why you’re filling in. Honestly we should just flush the entire GOP down the gold toilet when we flush the convicted felon, twice impeached, ex president aka rapist and fraud.

My only hope is that the number of rational voters who can clearly see the danger of the US going off the guard rails should the cult of Trump prevail. I have faith that those who voted for Hailey will shift their votes to Biden. The one enduring question that escapes my rational thinking is how exactly is Trump going to deal with the issue of inflation when the reality of it is caused by corporate greed. Inflation is largely affecting the lower income segment of society which flies in the face of the fact that this past Memorial Day had the highest level of travel in recent memory.

My fingers are crossed for the Haley supporters too. Should Trump win (God help us), he will handle inflation as he does everything else, with tons of p.r. and spin. Last time, he ran the economy hot, nagging the Fed. On the day after Inauguration, he will declare, “Now we have the economy under control! You’re welcome!”. No one will pay any attention to the lower income, who can’t afford MAGA swag or boats for parades.
