Speaking of brain drain and attacks on universities, here’s the latest from Indiana. MAGA Governor Braun is stacking the board of trustees with his toadies. A more low-key, insidious way than trump’s blunt attacks on universities, but could be quite effective in bending the university to his will. The Trustees approve everything (or not). Wondering if this is happening in other red states.

It’s probably worth mentioning that the STEM grads the US does produce get siphoned off by Wall Street to create investment algorithms the SEC can’t hope to understand.

Why do I feel we are in the troughs of a repeat of the Pol Pot regime. Maybe not quite as extreme (yet) but near zero day where education is concerned and the rapid dumbing down of American.

J.D. Vance is dangerous because he is ferral, ignorant, unrefined, blood thirsty for power and will do or say anything to anyone he perceives as a means to his ends. He's a fake Catholic, a hybrid evangelical-hillbilly version of what he thinks piety is. He's a smarter version of Trump, but that's not saying much. That sucking sound you hear? That's America imploding, no longer great, in a heap of trouble and only massive and fervid resistance and new leadership in the Dem party will get us out of this. We need to fight like our democracy depended on it. June 14. No Kings protest. Be there or be square.

Charlie--- my dad retired from teaching in 1987...his reason is captured on the front of your book...yes, the system was beginning to embrace the concept of high self-esteem versus being literate and have decent math skills in the 1980s...some of that credit belongs to the republicans who, starting with Reagan, wanted to do away with public education...

I thionk something that gets underplayed in the media (and here) is the fact that uneducated and uninformed people are easier to control...it is the Fucked Up news business model...this current administration has yet to give any consideration about the truth...

between 2026 and 2028 there is going to be a great upheaval as magats realize they sped up their own demise...their hate of the others will be their downfall...

I live in. the Research Triangle of North Carolina in a community that has many foreign workers (mostly Indian and Pakistani) They are needed to help at companies such as Fidelity Investments which has a large operation in Research Triangle Park. The problem is the MAGA hierarchy including JD Vance have no regard for foreigners on visas working here Oh wait, he has an Indian wife. How about that!

The next step in the brain drain is likely to be Americans self-exporting to a more welcoming place to do research….just wondering if the geniuses on Pennsylvania Ave are planning on adding up all the money Americans end up earning for other countries and claiming they solved the trade deficit 😂😂😂

In regards to the attack in Boulder, it’s obviously the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine

I don’t know if everybody has been watching the David Frost interview interviews that have been shown on MSNBC

The one with Richard Nixon was really good especially where he blurt out that it’s not illegal if the president is doing it. Fast-forward to the same mentality from Donald Trump, supported by the Supreme Court.

This past weekend was number 6 titled “ Middle East “ which is talking about the conflict between Israel and Palestinians

It takes place in 1973 after Israel shut down an Arab civilian jet killing 108 people .

A lot of historic footage and the interview interviews are very good

All still very relevant and still an issue

The whole attack on public education, student loans, scientific research and the recruitment of top-tier foreign students has an element of hysteria to it, which is an important clue as to its origins: Trump's GOP is fighting a retro resistance to any and all changes which will 'share the wealth' and privilege now enjoyed by mainly male, white, conventionally Christian men with money. They don't like stories like those in which a black child from an impoverished family works hard and eventually succeeds, become an example for everyone in an updated rags-to-riches story. They don't like that women are doing better than men, as a whole, in the educational sphere, they don't like or accept the clear and present 'danger' of foreigners who outperform the scions of American wealth in the Halls of Academe. So they are enacting a desperate backlash, all in vain, completely ridiculous and NOT IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Not to mention harmful to our (changing) nation as a whole.
