The Elite's abandonment of Liberalism is now complete. It's all about the Benjamins.

There's a real, off-the-rails feeling in the country to me. Part of me really wants Rs to have to suffer the blame for what appears to be an imminent shutdown for a good long while, but part of me remembers the last, long shutdown, where World Central Kitchen had to provide food assistance to Federal workers who had missed multiple paychecks, which was heartbreaking. Will Jose Andres et al. have to swoop in again to feed Federal workers--during the holidays and before the new admin is even sworn in no less??

wait till the trump shit hits the fan and sprays all over his supporters and their trump tennis shoes.

maybe they will get it? or are they so loaded on purple kool aid that they will fall down and not know what happened. then blame it on "they/them"?

what will the next lie be? the democrats should let the MAGApublicans in the house and senate flop like fish and not support anything they try to accomplish. maybe then the people the "they/them" are actually themselves and the other MAGApublicans led by the felonious, fraudster, rapist 47th president.

I cannot begin to fathom the stupidity of Trump and his lawyers with all these lawsuits. And the voters think this is ok? At what point does freedom of speech become an oxymoron? I think now is the moment. Suing a pollster for election interference? Who the hell comes up with this nonsense? Everybody on the right hollered about Twitter suppressing free speech, but a professor cannot speak the truth about RFK? Wow, talk about irony. We are in for some hard years. I am deeply afraid.

I just finished reading Paul Krugman’s last column in the NYT (yes, I still have a subscription, so sue me) and I agree with him that white “elites” (and elite POC) are not happy that they are no longer adored like they used to be. They see “Orange Panda” as their ticket back to “god-hood”. Boy, are they going to get a rude awakening…remember when Macron was holding hands with Trump back in the day? How well did that work out?

The other thing I want to mention was that “gala” with young Republicans in NYC. Steve Bannon was one of the main speakers and “jokingly” mentioned a 3rd Trump term. There is no “jokingly” about it despite what mainstream media reports. This is very well thought out MAGA strategy. What they do “jokingly” is really testing the waters to see what the gullible American populace is willing to accept. If they can keep “jokingly” referring to a 3rd Trump term without too much outcry or resistance then HELL YEAH…they will go for it.

Isn't it amazing? The newspapers - especially, but not limited to - The NY Times and WaPo, bent over backwards to sanewash Trump, offer equivalencies between his audacious lies and actual facts, spin headlines. And now the same media will be (violently) threatened and sued by the man the media purposely placed into office. All so the small collection of billionaires who own media can make a few extra bucks. Maybe they had no actual effect on voters - I vehemently disagree with this because they could have pushed Biden's policies that helped anyone who wasn't rich and maybe more people would have voted - but the MSM will get a bitter taste of medicine.

While I find this analysis good I cannot agree with calling it a "capitulation".

Biden raised the minimum tax rate for corporations from 0% (or less) to 15% and cracked down on tax dodging. Trump has promised to cut their taxes down even lower than before (and pre-2023 Tesla paid 0% as did Amazon).

They are not "capitulating" as most people use the word. They are picking their side, and it is not us, or the truth, or the nation as a whole.

Let's stop blaming Trump, all Republicans are responsible.

The billionaires that own the country’s media, are just another spoke in the MAGA Republican crime family’s wheel to purposely exert dominance over our society to control our lives as they believe is best for them to continue to dominate and control the country in their best interest, not for the rest of us! Therefore, we need to see the bending of knees, ring kissing and bribery payoffs for exactly what they are! CONTROL!

"For some reason, not made clear by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Paustian felt the need to apologize, and directed O'Donnell to a recording of the apology."

Perhaps he apologized because he understood that using the lecture platform in class to air his opinions about RFK in the manner he did was inappropriate?

Was this a discussion that was relevant to the class to begin with?

Perhaps had he raised a question like "Class, what do you think about the appointment of RFK to be Secretary of Health and Human Services?" And then allowed his students the opportunity to discuss it in an open and civil manner. Instead he chose to opine and pontificate on his own from his position of authority.

Less acceptable, but also totally predictable, was the Republican gang bang that followed carried out on the antisocial media.

By the way how is what the student did with his recording any different than what social justice jihadists have done to the politically incorrect professors who uttered unacceptable thoughts in unguarded ways?

Academics have to understand that politically aware students on the left and right no longer will just let things ride and they need to be prudent in their pronouncements within the confines of their classrooms.
