At this point…what will the conservatives be for? There’s a need to redefine both parties…Republicans certainly cannot stand with their past policy positions as the country moves forward & neither can the Democrats…
I don't know if you'll see this - but I love watching the never trumpers and some disaffected republicans trying to find their way. As a life-long democrat (but I have voted for Republicans) and definitely very left socially, some of this brings me joy. In an ideal world we really can form a party (whether it be new - which I know is far fetched, or a reformation of an existing one) where we can allow for Mamdani's and understand that we need something far more centrist to win nationally. I wish the Dems would welcome these guys into the party and then listen to them.
As a registered Republican, never Trumper and probably now more center left, the next couple of elections have NOTHING to do with policy differences or conservatives or progressives. It is about cleansing the executive branch of the people who are controlling the country and destroying everything they’ve put in place. After we have a semblance of normalcy even if it takes decades then we can argue policy.
I’m a lifelong center left Democrat. I don’t always agree with my party on every issue. I suspect that’s quite common. We likely have more we agree on than not with the Never Trumpers. I think the last few elections have made us moderate Dems more open to the right’s point of view in general as long as caring about the disadvantaged and marginalized is demonstrated and no one is looking to take away our rights and freedom.
