Charlie, thanks for reminding everyone that D-Day was an invasion by the Allies. And you named all the countries that we joined with. Everyone believing in a civilization striving to reach the ideals that The United States of America was founded on.
Thank you so much for this. Like you and many of your readers, my dad was in WWII. He NEVER spoke of it to us. Ever. One of my mom's brothers died in Luzon and is buried in a cemetery outside Milwaukee. As one of the few remaining family members, I visit his grave every few years when visiting family in Chicago. But I was taught American history and it has remained with me. I continue to be appalled at our president's careless ignorance. (BTW, is 'rally speak' Trump's only method of communicating, no matter what world leader he meets with? I guess it is better than the bullying, but geese.)
Exactly right, Charlie. My late father in law was in the Navy on the USS Arkansas in the North Atlantic during the war. He went on to become the managing editor of the Wilson, NC newspaper after getting a journalism degree on the GI bill. He would be in total disbelief of the current state of affairs. And I’m still here and can’t even believe it, that we are now with the Axis instead of the Allies. 😥🤯😡
All Americans should walk the cemetery in Normandy, view the sheer cliffs the tens of thousands of soldiers from over a dozen countries had to climb, walk in the huge crevasses created by German armaments. Sacred ground. To have a moronic Commander in Chief in 2025 desecrate this sacrifice is beyond shameful. It’s immoral.
The only worse point in Merz's Oval appearance was the Ukraine war "two kids fighting" comment. I thought the look on Merz's face was absolutely priceless - it looked like he was saying to himself WTAF???????
But what did you expect out of Taco Don? He knows nothing about anything (including real estate) even though he thinks he's the most brilliant person on Earth.
Thank you for this timely and wise post, Charlie. My father and father-in-law were WW II veterans, who fought in the Pacific theater. My father's brother gave his life for freedom and democracy in Normandy, France, in August 1944.
Trump and his regime can fight fascism today, if they choose, by fully supporting Ukraine's self-defense and further sanctioning Russia. Instead, TACOman appeases Russia's fascist dictator, allowing the violence to grow. On D-Day 2025, we are on the path to another Pearl Harbor because of our latter-day Charles Lindbergh, donald trump.
"FFS. Our presidential moron chats about history with the German chancellor."
A little disappointed that "moron" was all you had left in your arsenal for this one, Charlie. But in your defense, it has been quite the FFS week all week long, hasn't it!
Well said, Charlie. You know we Canadians are somewhat baffled by what’s going on in the country south of the 49th parallel - our closest neighbours. It feels like when a good friend starts to act strangely so that you hardly recognize your good companion. We know many of you are struggling mightily to win back the soul of your country and we applaud and support all those who are fighting the good fight. It is heartening to know that many are resisting. Thank you for using the D Day anniversary to recall a moment when freedom hung in the balance and we all joined together to win the day. we are all stronger together.
We would be ill-advised to take lessons in history from this empty-headed dolt who admitted he doesn't know what the stripes on the U.S. flag represent, and worse, he doesn't want to know.
What a shock (!) it is to hear The Felonious Oath-Breaking SoB so glibly pass rhetorical gas in another treasonous utterance concerning D-Day to another allied head of state.
I wonder how the descendants of those who fought and died in what Eisenhower correctly labelled The Great Crusade react to The Felon's pronouncement on their ancestor's sacrifice?
What is astounding is the attraction the amoral psychopath has for so many Americans
I cannot believe it’s his charisma alone. As a brilliant con man he realizes the anger and disenfranchisement too many Americans feel towards the political “ elites” who don’t correctly the ever increasing obscene income disparity
As a Canadian I just can’t imagine so many of our citizens affiliating with a human like trump
Is there some inherent characteristic in your culture that engenders this phenomenon ?
What an ignorant thing for the President to state. And what a great way for Merz to say it was liberation day for them (the German nation) in response. I seriously doubt that sunk in to Trump. I just wonder when world leaders will realize that when you meet Trump in the White House, there will be lights, camera, action and an ambush with fawning Trump minions. Fortunately for Merz, Trump had no particular ax to grind with him.
Charlie, thanks for reminding everyone that D-Day was an invasion by the Allies. And you named all the countries that we joined with. Everyone believing in a civilization striving to reach the ideals that The United States of America was founded on.
We're all in this together ❤️

Your last statement keeps me up at night.

We need another D-Day. Right here.

Shame!
Well stated Charlie, literally and metaphorically

Correct

Yes, yes, yes. My father was also a WW2 vet. In the Trump world there are only servants and enemies.
Thank you Charlie your words just encapsulated who we were back then we did this together with our allies and why we stayed allies until …
